Research Assistant, Department of Paediatrics & Child Health
The Research Assistant will support the successful implementation and completion of the PhD research project titled "Addressing Diagnostic Challenges in Paediatric Rheumatology in Kenya." The role will involve organizing logistics for focus group discussions (FGDs), assisting in report writing, minute-taking during project meetings, and coordinating all activities necessary for the project's progress.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in research coordination, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
Coordinate participant recruitment and ensure representation from key stakeholders (e.g., pediatric rheumatologists, healthcare workers, and caregivers).
Manage scheduling, invitations, and reminders for focus group discussions.
Arrange venues, virtual meeting platforms (if applicable), and necessary equipment for discussions.
Ensure informed consent is obtained from participants and ethical guidelines are followed.
Prepare materials for FGDs, such as discussion guides, consent forms, and recording devices.
Assist in recording and transcribing focus group discussions.
Assist in compiling, analyzing, and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data from FGDs and other sources.
Prepare preliminary and final reports summarizing findings from focus group discussions and other activities.
Write clear, concise minutes for all project meetings and distribute them to relevant stakeholders.
Support in drafting and editing sections of the PhD dissertation, journal articles, or other dissemination materials.
Monitor and track project timelines and deliverables, ensuring all activities are completed on schedule.
Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, parents, and focus group participants.
Coordinate meetings, workshops, and conferences related to the research project.
Collaborate with ethical review boards, university administration, and research committees to ensure compliance with regulations.
Develop and maintain budgets for project activities, including focus group discussions and travel expenses.
Arrange travel and accommodation for team members and participants as needed.
Assist in preparing presentations, handouts, and other materials for project dissemination.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field.
A Master’s degree in Public Health, Research Methods, or Project Management is an added advantage.
At least 1 year of experience in research coordination or as a research assistant in healthcare or social sciences.
Previous experience organizing focus group discussions or working on projects involving qualitative research methods is highly desirable.
Experience working in the field of pediatric healthcare or rheumatology is a plus.
