    School Nurse

    The Role

    St Andrew’s, Turi, is looking for a committed and capable School Nurse. The School Nurse will be required to work full time as a resident in our School Community. The School Nurse will be under the School Doctor and will play an essential role in the School's medical team helping to provide health services in the School.

    The day-to-day duties will require the School Nurse to provide primary healthcare to students and staff members and to treat minor injuries and sickness independently or with the assistance of the Doctor as necessary.  The School Nurse will be expected to participate in School safety plans related to physical education, games, and outdoor activities including educating students and staff on healthy habits such as proper nutrition and hygiene. He/She will also be required to ensure compliance with the Kenya Medical Board and Pharmacy Board advisory and all other health laws.

    Essential to working with us are:

    • Holder of a Diploma in KRCHN or it equivalent
    • Work experience of a minimum of five years as a registered Nurse
    • Be registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya and be in possession of a valid practicing license.
    • Attention to detail with a high degree of integrity and able to keep strict confidence in the work environment
    • Excellent communication skills, including in difficult situations
    • Ability to use email, MS office and other IT systems to record and communicate information.
    • Flexibility in working patterns where required for clinical need. 

    Desirable

    • Experience working in an international boarding school
    • Experience working in a Level 5+ hospital delivering care to children and young people
    • Recent First Aid Training
    • Qualifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Paediatric Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and/or Advanced Trauma Life Support
    • Expertise in nutrition and dietetics
    • Postgraduate training in communication skills, psychology and/or counselling
