Job specification

Duties and Responsibilities at this level will entail:-

• Distribute test reports as may be necessary.
• Maintain test results as may be necessary; and
• Avail correct test results for the tests conducted;
• Study of factors degrading wood and determine the methods of treatment;
• Maintain samples collected as may be required to yield correct test results and test history;
• Carry out quality tests of wood poles being delivered to the corporation to ensure conformity to standards;
• Formulating, updating and maintaining technical specifications for poles for use in the electricity distribution function;
• Apply test processes as required during testing of various materials;
• Carry out chemical analysis of wood, quantitative chemical wood analysis,  and wood preservation;
• Collect samples for the relevant wood tests;
• Advise on wood samples preservation techniques that should be applicable in the wood testing laboratories;
• Advise of wood preservation technologies that should be applicable from time to time;
• Advise and review the testing equipment’s necessary for wood testing;
• Advise on establishment of an appropriate Wood Laboratory for the corporation;
• Formulate, maintain and update procedures to be consistent with current trends in timber preservation and testing;
• Formulate policy framework on wood poles testing;

Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:- 

• A minimum of four (4) years’ relevant experience;
• Bachelors degree in any of the following disciplines: forestry, wood science and technology or related disciplines from a recognized institution;
• Masters degree in any of the following disciplines: forestry, wood science and technology or related disciplines from a recognized institution;
• Membership to a relevant professional body in good standing;
• Proficiency in Computer Applications;
• Certificate in supervisory course lasting not less two (2) weeks from a recognized institution;
• Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results;
• Proficiency in computer applications; and
• Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
