Social Worker at The Maa Trust

The Social Worker will provide comprehensive case management services with a particular focus on children, adolescent mothers, women, and the elderly. The role will ensure timely identification, reporting, follow-up, and referral of cases involving child protection, adolescent mothers, and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), while offering psychosocial support to survivors and their families. The Social Worker will act as a link between The Maa Trust, CHP Talek Health Centre, the community, and statutory agencies, ensuring adherence to the reporting procedures of Narok West Sub-County.

Key roles and responsibilities:

• Case Management & Support
• Identify, assess, and provide case management support for vulnerable children, women, and families.
• Offer counselling and psychosocial support to adolescent mothers during antenatal and postnatal periods, encouraging them to return to school where possible.
• Support survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) with dignity and confidentiality, ensuring their immediate safety and well-being.
• Maintain accurate and confidential case files, tracking follow-up actions and outcomes.
• Work closely together with the Kenya Police Service to ensure that evidence is collected and stored correctly.
• Testify in court hearings regarding abuse cases when necessary.
• Reporting & Referral
• Ensure that cases are reported promptly and in line with the national guidelines.
• Map, identify, and maintain a pool of service providers under the referral pathways for timely referral of cases.
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with local child protection structures, the police, health authorities, and other referral actors.
• Provide clear, timely reports to the facility matron and relevant government agencies.
• Community Engagement
• Sensitize the community on child protection, gender, and rights.
• Work with Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) and other local structures to identify at-risk households and individuals.
• Participate in multi-agency case conferences, forums, and community awareness events.
• Capacity Building & Collaboration
• Train and support CHP Talek staff and CHVs on referral pathways, reporting protocols, and psychosocial support.
• Train and support Maa Trust staff and outreach workers on referral pathways, reporting protocols, and psychosocial support.
• Collaborate with schools, local leaders, and government agencies to create a supportive environment for vulnerable children and women.
• Ensure all interventions comply with national child protection and safeguarding guidelines.
• Periodic monitoring of service providers to ensure safe and effective survivor-centered service provision

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma in Social Work or Psychology, bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in child protection, GBV case management, or social work in a health or community setting.
• Demonstrated familiarity with child protection and gender based violence legal frameworks and standard operating procedures.
• Demonstrated understanding of survivor-centric interviewing approaches, safeguarding principles, and humanrights-based approaches.
• Experience working with adolescent mothers, women, and children in rural/pastoralist communities preferred.
• Strong counselling and psychosocial support skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and report-writing skills.
• Fluency in English, Kiswahili, and Maa.
