Support Staff (ICU-Theatre Technologists) - 7 Posts at County Government of Kirinyaga

Duties & Responsibilities

• Preparing ICU and operating theatre, ensuring all equipment, instruments, consumables and linen are available and sterile for procedures;
• Assisting anaesthetists and surgeons in preparation and positioning of patients for surgery, anaesthesia induction and critical care procedures;
• Operating, decontaminating, maintaining and ensuring proper functioning of ICU and theatre equipment including anaesthesia machines, ventilators, monitors, defibrillators, suction machines and theatre tables;
• Ensuring collection, cleaning, sterilization (autoclaving), packing and proper storage of theatre and ICU instruments and linen in accordance with Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) guidelines;
• Maintaining accurate records of patients in theatre/ICU, equipment, consumables, and preparing daily reports and requisitions;
• Ensuring theatre and ICU environment is clean, safe and compliant with quality assurance and occupational safety standards;
• Receiving patients in ICU/theatre, assisting in admission, monitoring and ensuring patient comfort and safety;
• Assisting in taking specimens to laboratory and collecting blood for transfusion and ensuring cold chain is maintained;
• Participating in continuous medical education, mentorship of students and support staff;
• Any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

• Be a Kenyan Citizen;
• Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C- or its equivalent;
• A certificate in Theatre Technology from a recognized institution;
• At least one (1) year working experience in a busy operating theatre or ICU will be an added advantage;
• Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) will be an added advantage;
• Satisfy the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya.;
