Objectives and Duties:
The Value Chain Development Specialist will design and lead the implementation of technical activities to promote the development of East African apparel, home décor/fashion accessories and footwear value chains to increase East African exports to the US under AGOA, including through regional sourcing and subcontracting. S/he will work with private sector groups and associations, government export promotion agencies, individual firms, and other stakeholders to identify end market opportunity, and build capacity to meet market demand. The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya with extensive regional travel.
The Value Chain development Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following detailed tasks:
· Lead market research and end market analyses for key sectors under AGOA including home décor/fashion accessories, apparel, and footwear
· Provide technical assistance to export focused firms to improve product offerings to meet international market demands
· Facilitate linkages between export focused firms and key buyers and other investors
· Provide supervision for subcontracts /grants under the Partnership Fund to increase value chain competitiveness through value addition and technology transfer
· Provide technical expertise and content on AGOA, its regulations and requirements to Hub staff and other stakeholders
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree international trade, economics, public policy, engineering, technology, science, business administration, or related area;
· A Master’s degree in management, economics or business administration preferred.
· At least seven years of relevant experience in trade promotion and investment facilitation Africa.
· Demonstrated experience in exportâ€focused private sector development in the EAC region.
· Extensive experience in textile and apparel sector in the region, including established relationships with key international investors, trade and business associations, and buyers.
· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with institutional and private sector partners and stakeholders in a multi-country setting.
· Excellent English writing and communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· The Value Chain Development Specialist will have no supervisory responsibilities.

Objectives and Duties:
The Program Assistant will support execution of technical activities in Trade Promotion and AGOA, Component 3 (C3) so as to improve delivery of programs and events in the component. S/he will work with staff in the component and other Hub staff to organize and deliver Hub-sponsored events and activities, and help to record and document planned and completed Hub deliverables.
The Program Assistant will be responsible for, but not limited to the following detailed tasks:
· Update C3 event calendar on the Hub’s information management system and on whiteboard
· Collect and collate C3 content for the Hub’s upcoming and biweekly reports
· Organize venue, logistics, catering, and monitoring and evaluation materials for Hub sponsored events in line with approved budget
· Obtain information to support C3 staff preparation of budgets and requisitions in the information management system
· Coordinate follow up on procurement of C3 goods and services
· Recruit participants and collect their profiles/engagement forms and other required documents before an activity in line with guidance provided by relevant C3 staff
· Support C3 and other Hub staff during events including registration and distribution of materials
· Periodically provide monitoring and evaluation data on events to M&E section and Operations department as requested including attendance sheets, feedback evaluation forms, profile forms and engagement letters, and annual survey questionnaire
· Conduct specific research on topics relevant to AGOA and Trade Promotion or other relevant subject matter as requested by Component Lead, particularly for presentations and reports, and assist technical team to draft reports and technical documents
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in international trade, economics, public policy, communication, business administration, or related area.
· Post graduate qualification in management, economics, business administration or communication or related fields, an added advantage.
· At least three years of relevant experience in research, program management or corporate communication in East Africa.
· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with institutional and private sector partners, and stakeholders.
· Computer literate with demonstrated skills in spread sheets, database management and social media
· Excellent English writing and communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· The Program Assistant will have no supervisory responsibilities.
Base of Operations:
· Nairobi, Kenya with limited regional travel
Reporting:
· The Program Assistant will report to the Component 3 Lead: Director, Trade Promotion & AGOA.
