Key Duties:

Operations Management

• Supervise daily production activities to ensure efficiency and timely achievement of targets.
• Coordinate workflow and delegate tasks to team members to maximize productivity.

• Collaborate with other departments to resolve operational challenges and improve coordination.
• Develop and oversee production schedules to align with delivery timelines and resource availability.

• Establish, implement, and monitor quality control measures to uphold the organization's standards.

• Process Improvement
• Identify inefficiencies in production workflows and recommend solutions to streamline processes.

• Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for enhanced operational consistency.
• Analyze production data and prepare reports to highlight trends and areas for optimization.
• Health, Safety, and Compliance
• Oversee compliance with health and safety regulations, ensuring all employees

• Conduct safety training sessions to promote awareness and reduce risks.
• Facilitate annual fire drills, monitor lessons learned, and implement corrective measures.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and maintenance of equipment and materials to minimize risks.

• Oversee repairs and recommend upgrades or replacements when necessary.
• Adhere to environmental regulations to ensure sustainable production practices.
• Team Leadership and Development
• Train, mentor, and supervise production teams to build skills and improve overall team performance.
• Conduct performance evaluations and recommend appropriate development opportunities.
• Foster a collaborative and motivated work environment to achieve organizational objectives.
• Represent Alive and Kicking Kenya in relevant forums or industry-specific events to highlight production successes and innovative practices.
• Cost and Inventory Management
• Monitor production costs, ensuring effective resource allocation and minimal waste.
• Control and manage the organization's operational budgets within allocated limits.
• Oversee inventory levels and ensure accurate tracking to avoid shortages or overstocking.
• Crisis and Contingency Management
• Prepare contingency plans to address unforeseen disruptions in production.
• Lead resolution efforts for operational emergencies to minimize downtime and ensure continuity.

Education and Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Quality Assurance, or leather technology.
• At least 3-5 years of experience in operations or quality assurance roles.
• Proven experience in supervising teams and managing production workflows.
• Familiarity with inventory management and procurement processes.
• Experience in data analysis and reporting to drive decision-making.

The HR Consultant will provide professional expertise in developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and frameworks to align the organization's workforce with its mission, vision, and objectives. The consultant will work closely with leadership to address HR challenges, enhance employee engagement, and optimise organisational efficiency.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Employee management:

• Ensure all personnel files are up-to-date with relevant personal information, including NSSF, SHIF, KRA details, next of kin forms, identification cards, and photos.
• Track and manage employee leave, attendance, absenteeism, and sick leave.
• Handle all disciplinary procedures per company policy, approved Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), and Kenyan labor laws, ensuring accurate documentation and filing.
• Lead staff recruitment, including onboarding of employees and trainees in collaboration with relevant managers.
• Develop internship and training programs tailored to company needs and departmental goals.
• Conduct induction and orientation for new staff, facilitate exit interviews, and assist with handovers.

Health and Safety:

• Oversee health and safety compliance for all staff.
• Lead the identification and annual training of first aiders, fire marshals, and the health and safety committee.
• Facilitate annual fire drills and ensure implementation of lessons learned.
• Guide the process for obtaining annual work permits.
• Promote positive mental wellness in the workplace.

 HR Policies and Procedures:

• Review and update existing HR policies to ensure compliance with labor laws and organizational values.
• Develop new policies to address identified gaps.
• Train and support staff on HR policies and best practices.

Recruitment and Staffing:

• Design and implement innovative recruitment strategies.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention processes.
• Create frameworks for career progression and succession planning.

Performance Management:

• Refine the performance management and appraisal system.
• Train managers and staff on conducting performance evaluations and implementing improvement plans.

Compliance and Risk Management:

• Ensure full compliance with Kenyan labor laws and employment regulations.
• Identify HR risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.

 Capacity Building:

• Develop user-friendly HR manuals and toolkits to improve operational efficiency.
• Represent the organization in relevant HR forums and external meetings.

Policy Review and Implementation

• Collaboratively review and update the Alive and Kicking Human Resource Policy.
• Lead CBA negotiations and ensure effective implementation in collaboration with management, shop stewards, and supervisors.
• Recommend continuous process and policy improvements to enhance productivity, learning, and staff growth.

Any other adhoc

• Perform additional HR-related tasks as needed.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• At least 5 years of professional HR consulting or management experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in collective bargaining and union management.
• Member of Institute of Human Resource Management - IHRM.
• Strong knowledge of Kenyan labor laws and HR best practices.
• Proficiency in HR management systems and tools.
