    Laboratory Technologist - Molecular Medicine and Infectious Diseases Support Program - 2 Positions

    The Project

    The University of Nairobi’s Molecular Medicine and Infectious Diseases Support Program provides advanced molecular diagnostics as part of the National HIV Reference Network. The Program wishes to fill two (2) posts of Laboratory Technologist in order to meet increasing demand for HIV Viral Load, Early Infant Diagnosis and Genotyping for drug resistance testing.

    Minimum requirements:

    For appointment to the position, a candidate must have:

    • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Microbiology.
    • Three (3) years hands on experience in a busy molecular laboratory (advanced knowledge of DNA and RNA PCR; and genetic analysis protocols).

    Post-Doctoral Fellow

    The grant has a provision for two (2) PhD scholarships and one post-doctoral fellowship. The PhD scholarship recipients are in their third year of study at the Faculty of The Built Environment and Design. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will be appointed for the initial period of one (1) year renewable upon satisfactory performance. The current areas of research interest are Urban Sprawl and Informality.

    Position: Post-Doctoral Fellow
    Location: The position will be located at the Department of Real Estate, Construction Management and Quantity Surveying, University of Nairobi

    Qualifications:

    • The applicant must be a holder of a Doctor of Philosophy degree and graduated within the last four (4) years
    • The applicant must have a PhD in Built Environment related disciplines
    • They must have research experience evidenced by publications in refereed journals within the last four (4) years
    • They should show evidence of being in research activity in the last two (2) years.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Working directly under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Post-Doctoral fellow shall undertake the following assignments:
    • Undertake targeted field studies related to the areas of research (informality and sprawl)
    • Prepare research papers for publication in refereed journals
    • Assist the PhD students carrying out their research under the project
    • Support the PhD students in data handling and analysis
    • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Principal Investigator and related to the project.

    Duration of the work: This is a four (4) year project with possibility of extension
