    Principal Engineering Technician (Automotive)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    An officer at this level will be deployed at any of the following functional areas:

    • Mechanical
    • Motor vehicles/plant-electrical

    Duties and responsibilities will entail;

    • Implementing policies, regulations, standards guidelines and strategies pertaining to mechanical maintenance of vehicles;
    • Diagnosing and analyzing motor vehicle mechanical parts, components and systems;
    •  Supervising mechanical maintenance of motor vehicles;
    • Coordinating inspection of mechanical parts systems of motor vehicles for compliance with quality standards specifications
    • Supervising pre-delivery inspection of automobile, bicycles and other machinery installations;
    • Supervising inspection of garages for approval by the chief engineer;
    • Supervising suitability tests for drivers;
    • Verifying spare parts and accessories
    • Carrying out valuation of motor vehicles and preparing reports;
    • Conducting pre/post repair inspection for costing and quality control;
    • Supervising inspection of motor vehicles involved in accident for repairs and investigations;
    • Supervising technical operations in the workshop;
    • Ensuring technical compliance, safety and quality control in provision of automotive mechanical engineering services;
    • Taking part in preparation of tender documents, development of specifications and technical evaluation;
    • Preparing technical and progress reports pertaining to mechanical engineering services;
    • Keeping up to date records and inventory pertaining to automotive mechanical engineering; and
    • Preparing work plans schedules; and
    • Mentoring staff working under the officer.

    Motor Vehicles/Plant-Electrical

    Duties and responsibilities will entail:

    • Implementing policies, regulations, standards, guidelines and strategies on automotive and plant electrical systems;
    • Supervising servicing and maintenance of electrical systems on motor vehicles, plant and equipment;
    • Supervising inspection, testing and examination of electrical systems on motor vehicles, plant and equipment;
    • Supervising installation and maintenance of communication systems and accessories on motor vehicles, plant and equipment;
    • Diagnosing electrical faults in motor vehicles, plant and equipment;
    • Interpreting electrical wiring sketches and diagrams in motor vehicles, plant and equipment;
    • Supervising installation of electrical components and wiring motor vehicles, plant and equipment;
    • Supervising pre-delivery inspection of automobile ,bicycles and other machinery and installations;
    • Verifying spare parts and accessories pertaining to automotive/plant electrical systems;
    • Taking part in preparation of tender documents, development of specifications and technical evaluation;
    •  Taking part in preparing technical reports pertaining to automotive/plant electrical systems;
    • Keeping up to date records and inventory pertaining to automotive/plant electrical systems;
    • Preparing work plans and schedules; and
    •  Mentoring staff working under the officer

    Requirements for Appointment

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

    •  At least twelve (12) years cumulative relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of senior Engineering Technician (automotive) ;
    • Technician Part III in Automotive Engineering or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution

    Or

    • Diploma in any of the following fields: Automotive Engineering, mechatronic engineering or   its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
    • Registration by the Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB) as a candidate Engineering Technician;
    • Valid annual practicing license from Kenya engineering technology registration board;
    • Certificate in supervisory skills course lasting not less than two(2) weeks from a recognized institution;
    •  Valid Driving License;
    •  Proficiency in computer applications; and
    • Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

    Medical Laboratory Officer

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms and specimens
    • Preparing clients for collection of specimens
    • Receiving, collecting, labelling and registering of patient’s specimens
    • Preparing Laboratory reagents
    • Examining specimens
    • Writing and recording of results
    • Preparing stains and reagents
    • Recruiting and preparing and bleeding of blood donors for transfusion services.

    Requirements for Appointment

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or any other equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
    • Registration certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB)
    • Valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board
    • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution

    Optimetrist

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Conduct Comprehensive eye tests
    • Check Visual acuity
    • Test for refractive errors
    • Prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses
    • Screen for conditions like Glaucoma, cataract and diabetic Retinopathy
    • Remove foreign bodies from the eye
    • Provide treatment for Lazy eye
    • Educate patients on poor eye care

    Requirements for Appointment

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

    • Diploma in Optometry from a recognized institution
    • Registration Certificate issued by Medical Board of Kenya
    • Valid practicing license from the Medical Board of Kenya
    • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution

    Medical Engineering Technologist

    Duties and Responsibilities.

    Undertaking preventive maintenance and repairs or medical/hospital equipment’s, plants, instruments and furniture.

    • Requisition for spare parts and consumables
    • Taking inventory of medical/hospital equipment’s, furniture and plants
    • Collecting information for research
    • Collecting information on medical engine engineering services for input into the Integrated Health Information Management System
    • Carrying out minor repairs of health facilities and utilities
    • Implementing medical engineering programmes and projects.

    Engineering Technician I (Automotive)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    An officer at this level will be deployed to any of the following functional areas:

    Mechanical

    Motor vehicles/plant-electrical

    • Diagnosing and repairing faults in automotive systems and components including engines, transmission, brakes and fuel systems;
    • Performing preventive/scheduled and breakdown/corrective maintenance of motor vehicles for optimal performance;
    • Testing motor vehicles before and after repairs;
    • Carrying out inspection of motor vehicles mechanical parts, accessories and systems for compliance with quality standards and specifications;
    • Conducting pre-delivery inspection of automobiles, bicycles and other machinery and installations;
    • Inspecting garages for approval;
    • Inspecting motor vehicles for repairing or boarding;
    • Undertaking suitability tests for drivers;
    • Carrying out valuation of motor vehicles and preparing reports;
    • Carrying out inspection of motor vehicles involved in accident for repairs and investigations; and
    • Updating records and inventory pertaining to automotive mechanical engineering services.

    • Diagnosing electrical faults in motor vehicles, plant and equipment
    • Installing electrical components and wiring in motor vehicles, plant equipment;
    • Taking part in pre-delivery inspection of automobiles, bicycles and other machinery and installations;
    • Taking part in verification of spare parts and accessories pertaining to automotive/plant electrical systems;
    • Compiling data on inventory pertaining to automotive/plant electrical systems; and
    • Compiling data on motor vehicle serviceability and valuation.

    Requirements for Appointment

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

    • At least six (6) years cumulative relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Engineering Technician (automotive) II;
    • Technician Part III in Automotive Engineering or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution

    Or

    • Diploma in any of the following fields: Automotive Engineering, mechatronic engineering or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
    • Valid Driving License;
    • Registration by the Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB) as a candidate Engineering Technician;
    • Proficiency in computer applications; and
    • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

    Senior Principal Engineer (Roads)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Developing, implementing and reviewing policies, legislation, regulations, plants, manuals, strategies and maintenance;
    • Developing plants and design and supervising contraction and maintenance of roads infrastructure;
    • Coordinating development and review of road design manuals and other manuals related to highways;
    • Coordinating development, implementation and review of road safety engineering programs and risk management plans for roads and infrastructure;
    • Reviewing specification and contract developments for tendering of road related works and approval;
    • Coordinating feasibility studies and environmental social impact assessment to determine viability for development of roads infrastructure;
    • Designing strategies and mechanism for protection of road services and access to road side developments;
    • Coordinating quality assurance, technical and performance audits on ongoing and completed road projects ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations and standards
    • Preparing Road Sector Investment Programs (RSIP) for maintenance, rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads in consultation with other key stake holders
    • Designing frameworks and mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation of ongoing and completed road project to ensure compliance with specifications, standards, laws and regulations;
    • Identifying areas of research and preparing terms of performance and reports:
    • Keeping up to date information pertaining to road infrastructure and maintenance;
    • Providing consultancy, capacity building, technical support and advisory services to MDAs on matters pertaining to road infrastructure development and maintenance;
    • Design, implementing and reviewing relevant professional development, graduate internship and industrial attachment programs in consultation with other key stakeholders:
    • Preparing progress reports;
    • Preparing strategic/ work plans, budgets and targets; and
    • Coaching and monitoring of staffs.

    Requirements for Appointment

    • Served for a minimum period of twelve (12) years, three (3) years in the grade of principle Engineer (Roads) or in an equivalent and relevant position:
    •  Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in any of the following disciplines: Civil Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution:
    • Masters degree in any of the following disciplines; Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
    • Registration as a Corporate Member or Member of Institution of Engineers of Kenya (MIEK); 
    • Registration by Engineer Board of Kenya as a Professional Engineer;
    •  Valid annual practicing license from the Engineers Board of Kenya; and
    • Certificate in Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
    • Proficiency in computer applications; and Demonstrated and high degree of professional competence and administrative capability as reflected in work performance and results

    Mechanical Engineering II (Mechanical & Transport)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • This will be the entry and training grade into this cadre. An Engineer at this level will work under the guidance of a designated supervisor. Duties and responsibilities will entail;
    • Taking part in preparation of designs and drawings for manufacturing mechanical components;
    • Taking part in fabrication of tools, equipment and machine/plant/vehicle component
    • Repairing and maintenance of vehicle, plant and equipment
    • Carrying out inspection and testing of vehicles, plant, machines and equipment;
    • Taking part in installation, maintenance and repair of vehicles, plant, equipment and machinery in workshops:
    • Identifying vehicles, plant and mechanical equipment for relocation, repair, replacement, overhaul and disposal;
    • Carrying out tests, valuation and inspection of vehicles, plant and equipment;
    • Supervising examinations and grade/trade tests for drivers and plant operators;
    • Collecting and collating data for research;
    • Collecting and compiling data on inventory of vehicles, plant, and equipment throughout their life cycle; and
    • Taking part in preparation of maintenance and serviceability schedules for vehicles and plant machinery and preparing reports

    Requirements for Appointment

    • Bachelors of Science or Engineering Degree in any of the following disciplines; Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical & Production Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical & Industrial, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Aeronautical and _Aerospace Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
    • Registration by Engineering Board of Kenya as a graduate Engineer;
    • Proficiency in computer applications.
