    Controller. GSE Maintenance

    Purpose

    Responsible for ensuring the effective deployment of GSE workshop capabilities for the cost-effective provision of both ad-hoc and planned maintenance services at Station based ground handling.

    Responsibilities

    Policies and Procedures:

    • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, policies, processes, procedures, organization standards and local procedures is achieved so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

    Safety, Quality & Environment

    • Promote and maintain a positive safety culture, healthy, secure and cost-effective operations for Kenya Airways and ensure compliance with the relevant industry/legislative requirements, GSE manufacturers’ requirements and company procedures.
    • Constantly review, monitor and adopt reasonable measures to improve quality, safety and minimize risk and hazards within GSE workshops
    • Assist GSE manager to perform risk assessments and maintain the GSE risk register.
    • Identify and report hazards, near misses, incidents and accidents.

    Day to Day Operations

    • Ensure the provision of cost-effective maintenance services of all ground handling equipment and motor vehicles in NBO and MBA.
    • Provide maintenance services to the standards required by ground handling operations to ensure safe, serviceability and availability of equipment to end users.
    • Control, monitor and continuously report the cost-effective deployment of maintenance resources to improve efficiency and reduce cost.
    • Develop and implement a planned maintenance program that monitors and reports equipment defects, performs root cause analysis and undertakes corrective measures.
    • Control inventory in liaison with the relevant department with the aim of optimizing their related costs.
    • Coach and support the GSE Technicians to ensure effective delivery of quality service and to drive a continuous maintenance improvement program.
    • Establish effective communication channels with all internal customers, external suppliers and key stakeholders to determine needs and respond to queries.
    • Develop, analyze, manage and track the GSE corrective measures plan for failures identified.
    • Ensure that all the required current operations manuals, publications and any other related documents needed to conduct GSE maintenance operations are available and that all GSE staff have:
      • Received and acknowledged
      • Comprehensively understood the content
      • Implemented the standards as recommended/documented
    • Examples of these manuals include- Current versions of applicable KQ operational manuals, manufacturer publications, current JKIA emergency response plan (AEP) and any other related documents.
    • Identify deviations in the published GSE procedures and establish local procedures and document them in the Local Station Manual (LSM) whilst ensuring conformity and currency with all regulatory requirements, organization standards, policies and procedures.
    • Ensure adherence of all KQ and manufacturers documented standards by all GSE staff, and all other service providers.
    • Support hub planners and implementers to enhance efficient rationalization, provision of resources and staff rotation.
    • Maintain equipment records / history to the required standard.
    • Attend operational meetings as and when required.
    • Champion and ensure implementation of KQ WAY best practices at the workshops

    Qualifications

    • Engineering Degree, BSc / B.Tech Mechanical or related discipline experience Or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering or related discipline.
    • 3– 5 years minimum experience in planning/managing maintenance service delivery in mobile plant/equipment environment
    • Knowledge of Analytical / Systematic approach processes
    • Knowledge of inventory control systems
    • Experience in human and material resource management

    GSE Maintenance - Technician

    Purpose

    • To service, maintain and repair Ground Handling Support Equipment for service delivery in a safe and cost-effective manner.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, policies, processes, procedures, organization standards and local procedures is achieved so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
    • Promote and maintain a positive safety culture, healthy, secure, and cost-effective operations for Kenya Airways and ensure compliance with the relevant industry/legislative requirements, GSE manufacturers’ relevant requirements and company procedures.
    • Identify and report hazards, near misses, incidents, and accidents.
    • Service, maintain and repair Electrical/Electronic failures in ground handling equipment and motor-vehicles as per the maintenance schedule for effective service delivery in a cost-effective manner.
    • Assess Electrical/Electronic/PLC’s defects on GSE and motor vehicles, perform root cause analysis and carry out corrective measures.
    • Effectively respond to GSE emergency Electrical/Electronic/PLC’s breakdowns for timely delivery service and avoid A/C delays.
    • Carry out Electrical/Electronic/PLC’s repairs, overhauls and modifications on major equipment components which include engines, Gear boxes, and transmission systems, hydraulic and electrical systems.
    • Identify and requisition materials for the task at hand in order to ensure timely release and availability of GSE and motor-vehicles for ground operations.
    • Document and maintain records of all Electrical/Electronic/PLC’s maintenance activities & equipment history.
    • Offer quality workmanship on all GH equipment and motor vehicles in order to enhance safety & project the organization’s image positively.
    • Conduct pre-delivery and post maintenance serviceability checks on all GSE delivered to the workshop. · Facilitate preventive maintenance of all GSE
    • Conduct quality spot checks to ensure compliance with safety and security procedures, service standards and recommended practices.
    • Carry out overhauls on major electrical components and PLC’S that control transmission systems, hydraulic and electrical systems.
    • Guide, Train and Mentor newly recruited and current GSE technicians
    • Adhere to KQ WAY principals and best practices.

    Qualifications

    • Diploma or Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics Engineering.
    • 2-3 years’ Experience in Automotive / Heavy diesel / Mobile plant environment electrical, wirings and schematics
    • Experience in computerized, PLC Repairs  
    • General sound understanding of electrical power/Electronics.
    • Sound understanding of electrical schematics.
    • Experience in PLC operations, diagnosis, and related Repairs
    • Sound knowledge of various electronic components, systems, and testing equipment. 
    • Good knowledge of hydraulic and Pneumatic electrical circuits.
    • Basic workshop operations like welding, lathe works etc
    • Have a valid driving license.
