    Paint Repair Member

    Overview

    • Designed, engineered and built in Kenya, Mobius Motors sells highly durable, highly affordable vehicles for Africa’s mass market.
    • Versatile, rugged and durable, it is designed for African cities whilst still being extremely capable off-road.
    • We are seeking to hire an exceptional Team Member – Paint Repair interested in a truly unique entrepreneurial opportunity to create impact on a global scale as part of our Production Team.

    Responsibilities

    • The Production team ensures that Mobius Motors executes a rigorous, efficient manufacturing process to deliver product on time, first-time right, and at the right cost.

    This encompasses the following areas

    • Process – Own Manufacturing processes (cyclic and non-cyclic) by providing input for best practises and follow them.
    • Operations – Ensure that production schedules are met at cost, on time, at the required quality and safety levels.
    • Team Responsibility – Play a positive part in creating a work environment that fosters a motivated team and a sense of belonging.
    • Every member of the Production team takes responsibility for supporting the business needs above, which may require expanding responsibilities as needed, additional learning, and tackling new professional challenges beyond what is reflected in this Job Description.

    Functional Areas and Responsibilities

    Process

    • Work Instructions: Own the work instructions with fellow team members for non-cyclic operations by providing input for current best practices.
    • Execution: Follow work instructions as trained on every day.

    Operations

    • Schedule Achievement: Work at the required pace to support efficiency and the achievement of the schedule.
    • Quality: Take responsibility for own work and raise issues early if quality has been compromised.
    • Lean Manufacturing: Live and promote the lean manufacturing philosophy of “do not accept a defect, do not create a defect, and do not pass a defect on”.
    • Tools and Equipment: Take care of all relevant equipment and tools to ensure it is available and functional to meet the scheduled needs in a safe and efficient way, with the required quality.
    • Safety: Always wear/use the required PPE for the job. Be your “brother’s keeper” by looking after fellow workers’ safety and by addressing or reporting non-conformances.
    • Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work environment.
    • Continuous Improvement: Live the culture of continuous improvement in the workplace by providing ideas to reduce waste, and by supporting the implementation of approved ideas.

    Qualifications

    • Certificate in Automotive Engineering – Spray Painting or any other relevant field
      Functional Knowledge & Skills
    • At least 5 years practical experience in paint repair in the formal vehicle repair environment, at a well-established branded vehicle repair dealership
    • Extensive working experience with fibre glass substrates in the vehicle repair environment will be an added advantage
    • Ability to read, interpret and follow work instructions
    • Attention to detail is paramount

    • Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili

    • Reactive – Rapid corrective actions focused on identification and rectification of root causes, rapidly mobilizing cross-functional teams at Mobius to analyse and resolve problems

    Product Quality

    • Quality Assurance Manual: Develop and maintain an up to date Quality Assurance Manual to support organisational product quality goals.
    • Product Auditing: Ensure vehicle audits are executed consistently as per the defined process with consistent application of the standards, and as per the audit schedule.
    • Defects Escalation: Ensure that the Alarm Escalation Process is being followed at all times.

    Quality Management System

    • Implementation: Coordinate cross functional activities throughout the organization to implement a Quality Management System so that certification can be achieved and maintained.
      Problem Solving
    • Quality Data: Prepare product quality reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends.
    • Support: Guide and assist the team when decisions need to be made on the acceptability of defects/conditions on a vehicle.
    • Data Analyses: Guide the plant with data analyses to prioritise problem solving activities to improve product delivered to the customer.

    People Management

    • Leadership: Provide leadership and direction for direct reports.
    • Teamwork: Work cross functionally with all teams to support the achievement of company goals.
    • Development: Identify development opportunities to grow individuals and support development plans through coaching/teaching and application of Company resources.
    • Performance Management: Use the company Performance System to create alignment of expectations, mutual understanding of actual performance, and support means to improve performance.
    • Stand in: Stand in for your Team Member(s) when they are not available to fulfil their duties.

    Administrative

    • Data Integrity: Ensure defects are being captured accurately.
    • Reporting: Ensure Plant Quality Metrics and Data are communicated on time to Plant Leadership.

    • Cost: Achieve financial objectives by planning your Quality budget, scheduling expenditures, analysing variances and initiating corrective actions.
    • Continuous Improvement: Support and generate company initiatives & ideas in reducing costs.

    Operations Supervisor

    • Process Standardization: Standardise the quality inspection procedures and ensure that they are being followed by the quality team members.
    • SOS /JES Improvement: Drive continuous improvement of standardized work by continuously looking for efficiency improvements and aligning the content to protect the customer.

    Product Quality

    • Production Inspection: Ensure that defects are being captured accurately and that the Plant Quality Metrics are being communicated daily to Plant Leadership.
    • Quality Reports: Prepare the required quality reports to assist the organisation to understand the Quality Performance and prioritise problem solving initiatives by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends.
    • Defects Escalation: Ensure that the Alarm Escalation Processes are being followed, defects are Quality Operations Supervisor 2 of 3 Mobius Motors being documented and the reaction plans are being executed by Production.

    People Management

    • Recruiting: Actively engage with the Human resource department in the recruitment process of the quality team members.
    • Training: Teach and coach team members on standardised work in quality operation organization to achieve consistent application.
    • Team Building: Organize bonding activities to ensure the team is highly motivated, with a common goal to help the organization become a lean world class manufacturer.
    • Development: Identify areas of training for the team members to ensure growth and multi-skills nurturing.

    Administrative

    • Budgeting: Achieve financial objectives by planning quality operations budget, scheduling expenditure, analysing variances and initiating corrective actions.
    • Materials & Consumables Control: Ensure appropriate use of the quality resources and eliminate or reduce wastes.
    • Database Management: Constantly ensure that the quality database is up to date and accessible.

    Cross functional

    • Standing-in: Stand in for Quality Team Members when they are not available to fulfil their duties.
    • Play a Cross functional Role: Support the overall objectives of the company by working with other teams as an when needed.
