    Master

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Marine Engineer for the following:

    • Ensures safe steering of the ship from one Port to another.
    • Ensures Safe handling of all cargo during loading and unloading by adhering to laid down handling procedures as per IMO regulations.
    • Ensures ship cleanliness and seaworthiness through regular cleaning of the ship.
    • Maintains Inventory of all ship’s stores, Certificates and documents
    • Ensures the ship is compliant with ISPS code and all IMO conventions requirements.
    • Advises management on renewal of expired ship certificates
    • Manages the ship’s slop chest (ship garment store for supply to crew).
    • Ensures ship and crew meet immigration and customs requirements during Voyages both local and international.
    • Liaises with investigators when the ship or its cargo has been damaged or causes damage to other vessels or facilities.
    • Inducts all new crews and contractors on all health, safety and environmental policy and regulation to ensure their safety on board the ship.
    • Reports all incidents and accidents occurring within the ship and allow faster investigation to knowing the root cause in view of stopping its recurring.
    • Ensures implementation of the various company policies and regulations regarding ship and cargo handling.
    • Prepares and implements approved annual ship budget
    • Conduct periodic tool box meetings with crew on safety matters among others
    • Monitor ship activities to avoid water and environmental pollution
    • Implements quality management systems ISO by ensuring all ship operations activities follow documented processes
    • Appraises ship crew and Sets their annual job targets.

    Requirements

    1. Form 4 certificate C+ and above
    2. Pass in Mathematics and Physics.
    3. Hold a deck certificate of competency (COC) issued by a government issuing authority e.g., K.M.A
    4. Must be STCW ’95 as amended in 2010 compliant.
    5. Hold a tanker familiarization certificate of proficiency.
    6. Hold Global Marine Distress and safety systems (GMDSS) general operators’ certificate.
    7. Ship security officer certificate
    8. Master of vessel of 500GT and above
    9. At least 2-3 years’ experience as a chief officer

    Chief Mate

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Master for the following:

    • Ensures proper safety of the ship during loading and offloading by coordinating ballasting of the ship.
    • Ensures cargo operation is properly documented
    • Submits periodic reports of the deck department to the Master.
    • Guides subordinates in job appraisal and target annual target setting.
    • Ensures appropriate manning arrangements of the ship bridge during the voyage.
    • Ensures towing and mooring lines are properly connected and safely secured with the ports ballads.
    • Monitor hull condition all the time to maintain the correct GM and the trim of the ship.
    • Formulates manning plans for the various departments of the ship according to manning levels as issued by Marine regulators.e. g KMA
    • Ensures lifesaving appliances, firefighting equipment and waterproofing equipment are properly maintained.
    • Coordinates maintenance of the hull, anchor chain, mooring equipment, towing equipment, cargo gear, navigational instruments, and accommodation spaces.
    • Monitors ship operation activities to prevent marine pollutions.
    • Plans replenishment of ship stores and encourage economic use of the same
    • Ensures Safety of crew and cargo on board the ship by encouraging use of PPEs and appropriate handling gears.
    • Coordinate with the chief engineer in matters related to shipboard repairs.
    • Makes arrangements relating procedures for access to shore and communication procedures when the ship is in port to avoid theft and stowaways.
    • Guides new crew and visitors on board the ship on matters safety.
    • Communicates with stations using all types of communication systems on board including GMDSS.
    • Ensures compliance of Quality Management System as per the requirements of ISO Standards

    Requirements

    1. Form 4 certificate C+ and above
    2. Training in ship navigation, COC
    3. STCW ’95 tanker familiarization,
    4. GMDSS and ship security
    5. Chief officer of vessel of 500GT and above
    6. At least 2-3 years’ experience as 2nd officer

    Chief Endineer

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Reporting to the master for the following: -

    1. Oversees daily operations of the ship engine and other auxiliary equipment through constant communication between inter departments on board the ship to monitor their performance;
    2. Keeps updated machinery survey reports for management and classification society for ships engine performance.
    3. Plans maintenance check list to ensure machines are properly maintained and reduce the risk of sudden breakdown of plant operation.
    4. Makes requisition, keeps Inventory of all stores (machinery spares and stores).
    5. Ensures sufficient stock are reserved, proper entry of engine log book and oil record book. (bunker, fuel oil, diesel oil, main engine systems lube oil)
    6. Communicates to management when ship maintenance is due and prepares for ship dry docking.
    7. Ensures deck machinery and ballast system are tested and confirmed to be properly functioning prior to port arrival.
    8. Reports all incidents and accidents occurring within the ship
    9. Engine and allow faster investigation to knowing the root cause in view of stopping its recurring.
    10. Submits voyage report, monthly main engine performance adhoc report
    11. Enforces bunkering of fuel oils, safety precautions and pollution control.
    12. Appraises and evaluates subordinates’ performance.
    13. Conduct fire detection alarm, firefighting equipment and lifeboats tests.
    14. Coordinates fire fighting between deck and engine room
    15. Ensure first aid boxes are equipped with all relevant items and are placed in the engine control room and other strategic points on board the ship.
    16. Ensures safe working practices by engine room staff and other ship crew by always wearing PPEs when on duty.
    17. Ensures all emergency equipment are in good working condition, (fire pump, emergency generator and life boat)
    18. Draws up training orientation program for engineering cadets.
    19. Ensures compliance of Quality Management System by making sure procedures and processes regarding the ship engine and the auxiliary equipment operation are done as per documented ISO procedures.

    Requirements

    1. STCW class III/3
    2. Certificate of competence (COC),
    3. At least 2 years as chief officer manning a vessel of 1000HP and above
    4. Must be STCW 2010 compliant.
    5. At list 3 years as 1st engineer on same

    2nd Engineer

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Reporting to the 1st Engineer for the following: -

    1. Carry out operations and maintenance of all working plants and machineries.
    2. Ensure engine room cleanliness/safety (engine room housekeeping).
    3. Submits fuel and lubrication oil consumption data.
    4. Overhauls and assembles main and auxiliary engines and machineries.
    5. Attends to bunkering and transfer of bunkers.
    6. Prepare duty roaster for engine room watch keeping duties.
    7. Monitors cooling water efficiency systems.
    8. Maintain and update daily records on oil Consumption
    9. Maintains all FFA and LSA for safety purposes.
    10. Tests emergency fire pumps, all engine room lifting gears and fire and smoke detectors.
    11. Monitors Pollution prevention by ensuring proper operations of oil and water separation.
    12. Keeps generators, pumps, steering gears, electrical motors of various rating serviceable and operational.
    13. Trains new engine room staff.

    Requirements

    1. Form 4 certificate
    2. Must be a holder of marine engine III/3rd class marine engines certificate of competency or its equivalent with
    3. At least 2 years servicing on a vessel of 1000HP and above as
    4. 1st engineer or 3 years as 2nd engineer on same.
    5. Must be STCW 1995 as amended 2010 compliant from IMO approved institution with certificates in: First aid
    6. Fire fighting
    7. Personal survival techniques(PST)
    8. Personal security and social responsibility(PSSR), Tankers and familiarization.

    Officer in Charge of Navigation Watch R

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Chief officer for the following: -

    1. lays the vessel’s routes on chart and mans the chart plotter
    2. Keeps a log of nautical publication and equipment and instruments;
    3. Prepares and keeps custody of voyage reports;
    4. Maintains log of the ship’s medical chest;
    5. Keeps a log of all life-saving and fire-fighting appliances on board;
    6. Operates life boat during rescue operations and while abandoning ship;
    7. Keeps navigational watch at sea and at anchor;
    8. Operates mooring station during berthing and un berthing of the vessel;
    9. Liaise with the chief officer and other deck crew to work on cargo on board the ship.
    10. Complies with safety management system procedures while on board the ship.
    11. Identifies and report non-conformities and near misses/hazardous occurrences as per procedures defined within the safety management system.
    12. Participates in preparation of the vessel for classification and statutory surveys.
    13. Keeps watch of mails during offloading and loading of mails.
    14. Implements quality management system procedures during ship operation.

    Requirements

    1. Form four certificate with good grades in mathematics and Physics
    2. Hold a certificate of competency as per the vessel’s minimum safe manning certificate.
    3. STCW ’95 as amended in 2010 compliant.
    4. Hold a tanker familiarization certificate of proficiency
    5. Conversant with operations and management if bridge navigational equipment
    6. Served as a 3rd officer or a 2nd officer for not less than 6 months.
    7. Knowledge of working with/on cargo, their care and ship stability

    Rating (Deck)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Chief officer for the following: -

    1. Handles mooring Ropes during ship docking and undocking
    2. Cleanse ship decks, hull, stores and rooms.
    3. Operates capstan/winches etc. during casting-off or berthing of the ships at all ports of call.
    4. Carries out safety/emergency maneuvers as directed/required.
    5. Works cargo and cargo gear at port of call.

    1. Form four certificate
    2. STCW

    Rating (Engine)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Reporting to the 3rd Engineer for the following: -

    1. Keeps engine room watches under the respective engineer in watch
    2. Performs ship engine overhaul, assembly and axillary equipment maintenance
    3. Cleans engine room of all oil spills at end of watch
    4. Keeps on testing pumping motors throughout the watch
    5. Communicates to Engineer of watch all the watch keeping occurrences.

    Requirements

    • Form four certificate
    • Craft certificate in Mechanical Engineering
    • STCW
    • Ratings
