    Community Based Rehabilitation Assistant (CBR Assistant), Dadaab.

    Lutheran World Federation -Kenya-Djibouti-Somalia Program, is seeking to recruit suitable candidates for the positions of Community Based Rehabilitation Assistant (CBR Assistant) in Dadaab Refugee Camp and Reporting to the Community Service Officer.

    1. Ensuring the Community Work are in compliance to LWF standards and values for providing quality rehabilitation services to the refugee camps in Dadaab and host community i.e. (The staffs have certificates of good conduct, license for professional practice and have signed the child protection code of conduct)
    2. Provision of technical support to staffs in the implementation of rehabilitation activities such as provision of assistive and mobility devices as well as facilitating training on wheelchair repair and maintenance.
    3. Coordinating, supporting and monitoring the team of Community Workers to ensure there’s smooth implementation of the different rehabilitation components as per the project documents
    4. Supporting in recruitment and induction of new staffs in the rehabilitation program as well as ensuring there is good rapport among the staffs and that the safety of staffs and clients at the rehabilitation centers is ensured.
    5. Maintaining and establishing contacts with health centers, schools and work places as well as collaborating with other team members in implementation of project activities to PWDs
    6. Support in managing the day to day activities of the rehabilitation program by delegating tasks and responsibilities to the rehabilitation staffs
    7. Supervising and monitoring the rehabilitation staffs to ensure they are aware of their roles and responsibilities and meeting regularly with the staffs to review their performance and progress
    8. Supported in organizing training programs for the CBR staffs
    9. Maintain a constant and efficient flow of information to the staffs
    10. Monitoring and ensuring there is proper documentation and record keeping by rehabilitation staffs for tracking progress, accountability and performance
    11. Developed and ensured that there are proper and well understood tools for collecting and monitoring information by staffs
    12. Ensured that there is proper handling, use and maintenance of equipment’s and appliances at the rehabilitation centers and in the field offices
    13. Coordinating and mobilizing resources at the station level for use by the staffs at the rehabilitation centers in the camps
    14. Keeping inventory of assets and equipment’s in use by the rehabilitation staffs in the camps
    15. Engaging the mid-level therapists and technical community staffs in practical sessions in management of clients with various musculoskeletal disorders and physical injuries at the rehabilitation centers and in Health Institutions e.g. (IRC Hospital) in the camps
    16. Recommending relevant trainings for the rehabilitation staffs to improve on their skills and knowledge in disability as they serve persons with disabilities in the camps.
    17. Supporting in capacity building staffs and clients/family/caretakers on correct posture, adaptation and environment modification in order to increase client’s participation in daily activities
    18. Ensuring there is adherence to the World Health Organization (WHO) Community Based Rehabilitation guidelines for provision of services to persons with disability in emergency settings by staffs as well as the CBR matrix approach in provision of services to persons with disabilities in the camps.
    19. Ensuring that stakeholders are involved in each stage of the management cycle and are well informed of accomplishments and new developments in the program
    20. Monitoring and implementing project activities together with other team members as per the work plan
    21. Contributed in developing concept notes and proposals, implementation also writing weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports of the project
    22. Ensuring that the rights based approach, community based approach and the psychosocial approach are incorporated in provision of services to PWDs by the rehabilitation staffs in the camp
    23. Ensuring that UN policies on rights of persons with disabilities are integrated in the CBR program in the camp and the rights of persons with disability according to the Kenyan constitution
    24. Supporting in creating  awareness in the community on disability issues through campaigns and observing international days for persons with disabilities
    25. Supporting and organizing trainings to the community on inclusion and mainstreaming of persons with disabilities in the camps
    26. Represented the organization in interagency and sectorial coordination meetings done in the camp along with being a member of the working group for Persons with Specific Needs (PSN) that advocates for the rights of PWDs in the camp

    Qualification:

    • Bachelors of Science in occupational Therapy, Jomo Kenyatta          
    • University of Agriculture and Technology, School of Medicine. Awaiting
    • graduation.

    2006 – 2009 Diploma in Occup

    1. Diploma in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or Orthopedic from KMTC
    2. Bachelors of Science in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or Orthopedic is an added advantage
    3. Registered and licensed by a relevant professional body.

    Skills and competencies:

    1. Good Knowledge of proposal writing and Report writing is a requirement.
    2. Working knowledge with Microsoft Office is a requirement
    3. Good knowledge of human rights (UN-convention on rights of Pwds)
    4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.                                      

    Relevant Experience:                                     

    1. 3 years Minimal Practical Experience.
    2. Experience gained working with an International Humanitarian NGO will be an added advantage.
    3. Previous work experience in hardship, marginalized areas or emergency setting
    4. Proficiency in English and Kiswahili language both written and spoken.

     Purpose of the position

    The purpose of this position is to manage the achievement of LWF World Service’s Quality Services Program Area’s key objectives, results and approaches in Kakuma or Dadaab refugee operation. Working closely with education and community services officers, the position will ensure strategic development and alignment to Government of Kenya policies, LWF Country Strategy 2019 -2024 and related thematic guidance notes. Specifically, the Quality Services  Manager will be in charge of all matters related to ensuring a holistic program delivery in Quality Services program area, ensure project development, thematic and technical implementation, coordination, monitoring and reporting, as well as financial budget control and monitoring.

     Key relationships

    The Manager for Quality Services will work closely with the other thematic managers ensuring the persons of concern (refugees and host community members) are supported and empowered to be the active agents of their lives. The position further supports the Area Manager to achieve the objectives of the Area Program and collaborates with the Country Program head office staff and regional PMER and Fundraising officers to ensure the quality of planning, implementation and reporting. As the supervisor of the staff within the Quality Services program area, the Manager will work to guide, direct and encourage the team members to develop themselves as professionals, and ensure the timely and efficient implementation of their tasks. As a Manager you will nurture partnerships and collaboration with your counterparts from partner and donor organizations and represents the organization in the thematic area of Quality Services towards them.

    Qualification and desirable experience and knowledge

    • Minimum of University Degree (Bachelor) in Education/Special Needs Education or University degree in Social Sciences with post graduate studies in Education
    • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience gained from an International NGO, with a bias to management of education in emergencies; refugee camps, IDP set ups and marginalized areas
    • Experience in full project Cycle Management
    • Experience and commitment to working through system of community participation
    • Proven experience to supervise, train and coach staff
    • Knowledge of relevant needs assessment guidelines and templates to conduct needs assessments for refugee populations
    • Knowledge of relevant sectoral humanitarian standards, knowledge of Community Based Psychosocial Support as an approach to programming is an added advantage

    • High integrity, self-driven and able to set own work schedule with rigorous deadlines.
    • Ability to initiate and complete assignments and to work under demanding circumstances with minimal supervision.
