    Communications Manager

    CHS/HR/CM/001/2024

    Overall Job Function

    Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the holder of the position shall be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of the CHS Communications Strategy, promoting the NGO’s mission, programs, innovations and initiatives to various key stakeholders including donors, partners, media, public and staff at all levels.

    The Communications Manager will be responsible for ensuring the creative and continuous implementation of the CHS strategic plan (2021 – 2025) and lead the execution of the Social Impact goal in the CHS strategic plan.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Implement the CHS communication strategy, policies and procedures: Design and execute creative strategies/plans to support the realisation of strategic goals, ensuring consistency across all communication channels. Develop approaches to manage the growth of the CHS brand at county, national, regional and international level
    • Brand Management: Maintain and enhance the NGO’s brand identity and reputation through effective messaging and visual representation. Ensure all communication materials, both print and digital, adhere to brand guidelines and are tailored to attract and retain the attention of the various CHS audiences
    • Content Creation and Dissemination: Oversee development of regular communication materials to all stakeholders, including but not limited to newsletters, annual reports, website updates, policy briefs, position statements, brochures, fliers, pamphlet, infographics, videos and other multimedia materials
    • Digital Engagement and Management: Develop engaging and relevant content to attract and engage target audiences to ensure consistent online presence, including website content, social media posts, subscriber engagement and online campaigns
    • External Communication: Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure media coverage for CHS initiatives, create demand and awareness of the focus diseases that CHS is involved in. Draft press releases, news articles, and other media materials to communicate key messages effectively
    • Internal Communication: Support the creative dissemination of timely, accurate and consistent information to foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge of CHS activities for all. Support CHS teams in the development of key messaging for resource mobilisation and program activities Build the capacity of staff in basic interpersonal, public relations, communication and client- relationship management skills
    • Event Management: Plan, coordinate and promote CHS led activities and ensure effective communication before, during, and after the events to maximise participation and impact
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, partners, government agencies, and community organizations. Collaborate with program managers to ensure effective communication with project partners and beneficiaries
    • Performance Measurement: Establish metrics and analytics to assess the impact of communication efforts. Monitor and report on key performance indicators to guide future strategies and demonstrate the value of communication initiatives
    • Advise management on key public relations issues
    • Perform any other lawful duties that may be assigned from time to time.

    Person Specifications

    • A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Media Studies, Journalism or their equivalent from a recognised University. Master’s degree will be an added advantage
    • Postgraduate diploma in Journalism for candidates with a non-journalism degree
    • Proven experience (7) years working in communications or public relations, preferably in the healthcare or non-profit sector at a senior level
    • Proficiency in digital marketing, including social media management and content creation
    • Member of a relevant professional body such as Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) will be added advantage
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences and platforms
    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
    • Familiarity with health issues, global health policies, and the non-profit landscape is desirable
    • Proficiency in using communication tools, content management systems, and analytics platforms including MS Office and desktop publishing software particularly Adobe Creative Suite and web content management systems
    • Excellent writing, proof reading, editorial and proposal writing skills with ability to improve written content paying attention to detail.
    • Good interpersonal and group communication skills
    • Excellent photography and videography skills
    • Experience in documentation of project impact through news articles, feature success stories, photographs and documentaries.

    Ward Case Manager

    Overall Job Function

    The Ward Case Manager is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the DREAMS core package of interventions at the ward level. S/he will be responsible for the achievement of dreams targets and objectives.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Implementation and Training

    • Roll out and implement evidence based Interventions targeting adolescent girls and young women
    • Lead the identification of AGYW eligible for DREAMS from health facilities, child and community welfare settings
    • Responsible for overall management of the DREAMS program and adolescent safe spaces at the ward level
    • Lead the identification of safe spaces in collaboration with AGYW and other stakeholders and ensure that the safe spaces are equipped and stocked with commodities, safe and well branded.
    • Work with service providers to ensure that AGYW receive age appropriate service layering
    • Ensuring that the EBIs of Healthy Choices for a Better Future, My Health My Choice, SHUGA, SASA, FMP, Sinovuyo are implemented to reach the targeted AGYW
    • Liaise with link health facilities to facilitate referrals and outreaches for biomedical services and commodities availability and that AGYW are receiving youth friendly adolescent services
    • Facilitate male sexual partners mapping and outreach services to reduce risk of male sexual partners of AGYW
    • Facilitate mentorship session for AGYW and high achiever mentors
    • Support in the identification of mentors
    • Coordinating the work of mentors and facilitators in the ward, keeping records of their activities and work plans
    • Represent the program in meetings at the ward or sub county level
    • Producing monthly ward narrative and data reports
    • Facilitating monthly review meeting with mentors and facilitators
    • Assist in office administrative issues, including records keeping, payments, and other key issues
    • Ensure provision of economic strengthening interventions to all AGYW aged 18 – 24 yrs including entrepreneurship training, business startup kit support, youth saving and loaning, and linkage to Microfinance
    • Coordinate provision of social asset building services at the Safe spaces by the assigned mentors
    • Ensure that all enrolled AGYW are provided with age appropriate financial literacy training.

    Communication

    • Identify and develop Program human success stories to share on the organisation’s social media platform and with partners
    • Work with the Program’s communication officer to develop program communication materials and organisation’s brand enhancement
    • Program Monitoring & Evaluation

    • Orient mentors and facilitators on enrolment and service uptake documentation on ODK
    • Ensure that the activity registers and AGYW files are well documented and secured at the safe space

    • Responsible for all safeguarding issues in the safe spaces

    Person Specifications

    • A minimum of a Diploma in Social Sciences, Community Development, or related field. Bachelor’s Degree is an added advantage
    • Must be a Trained Facilitator or Trainer of Trainers in an EBI
    • A minimum of one (1) year experience implementing adolescent focused programs is required
    • Should be a computer literate, work well with MS Word and MS Excel, and internet research methods
    • Highly motivated to learn and work in a high-performance environment
    • Willingness to learn, tackle challenges and seek creative solutions in everyday assignments
    • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Must be able to meet urgent and last-minute deadlines, work with grace under pressure, and function well in a high-performance team
    • Able to clearly communicate in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
