    Tech Lead - API & Microservices

    Brief Description 

    Reporting to the Software Engineering Lead, the role holder will be responsible for driving digital transformation with end-to-end responsibility within IT to provide technical leadership in driving delivery of all backend services and architecture implementing evolutionary modern architectures for building superior customer products.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Driving digital transformation with end-to-end responsibility within IT to provide technical leadership in driving delivery of all backend services and architecture implementing evolutionary modern architectures for building superior customer products.
    • Owning, leading, and driving software engineering practices across all Safaricom backend software engineering delivery teams. 
    • Providing expert knowledge of prototype creation, module and solution design and development using agile methodologies, and continuous testing to enable target business capabilities / user journeys.
    • Create, lead, manage, mentor and coach software engineers across the delivery organization, ensuring the quality software development and maintenance of highly skilled and motivated practice members.
    • Use of data insights to drive evolution of the backend software engineering and delivery of excellent customer. 
    • Work closely with all organization security and risk groups and solution architects to 
    • Make sure security is a high priority in digital applications development in digital channels and backend systems.
    • Design and deploy the implementation of the network and computer security in the organization supporting digital channels and backend systems.
    • Understand the company's technology, and information systems application security policies and standards and drive implementation on the digital channels and backend systems.
    • Plan vulnerability testing, risk analysis, and security audits on the digital channels and backend systems.
    • Define set of rules, policies, standards, and models that govern quality backend engineering within Safaricom as a practice.

    Qualifications

    • Strong knowledge of software architecture in backend systems.
    • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field
    • 7+ years of working experience in backend software engineering.
    • Proficiency in a modern coding language such as: Java and C#.
    • Must be have experience in developing and implementing algorithms. 
    • Proficiency in managing backend infrastructure systems such as databases and caching platforms.
    • Familiarity with CI/CD solutions and DevSecOps principles
    • Communicates and conveys complex technical details to all audiences.
    • Proven development experience on AWS Cloud and Azure Cloud.
    • Effective communication skills.
    • Ability to learn quickly
    • Development experience in agile teams; strong product development and collaboration skills.
    • You can create compelling and articulate arguments to Senior Leadership when presenting or negotiating on projects.

    Microservice Developer

    Brief Description 

    Reporting to the Micro services & APIs Tech Lead, the job holder will run day to day micro service development to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery that meets the expectations of the business.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop digital products – as part of your role, you will be required to develop products that are mobile, api and microservice driven.
    • Devops – you will be required to develop and support products that are been built using various tools along with creating CI/CD pipelines.
    • Create new ideas and demonstrate them in code – Code quality, understanding of the product and services.
    • Work with product managers and external parties in a team – Work with cross functional teams to ensure successful delivery of a product which includes other developers and product owners. 
    • Ensure delivery timelines – Ensuring all projects are delivered on time that has been agreed.
    • Making use of agile and scrum frameworks in project delivery- making use of tools like Jira, Confluence etc.
    • Developing microservices using sprint, sprint security, Kubernetes and dockers
    • Always be hands on delivering the highest quality and fixing of issues both on development and production.

    • Be proficient in both api management, api gateways and building of microservices.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
    • At least 1 year experience in coding in a non-university setting.
    • Have some experience and strong understanding around core systems: ESB’s preferable Tibco, mobile money, billing, VAS solutions (Ussd, SMS). 
    • Experience in Java, JEE, spring, spring MVC, spring boot, MAVEN, spring cloud and other programming languages like C, C++, Java.
    • Have experience around api gateways and api management: apigee, wso2, nginx, custom gateways.
    • Have knowledge on architectures, basic api functionalities – throttling, key managements and building of microservices using maven.
    • Strong understanding of end to end api and microservice architecture - Ability to design, develop and implement scalable, elastic microservice based platforms end to end all the way to the gateways.
    • Experience developing solutions using agile, DevOps, testing and CI/CD automation tools such as jenkins, JMeter, Git, Stash, SonarQube, GitOps etc
    • Strong Understanding of both soap and rest apis and development on swagger UI using open APIs.

    Engineer- RAN Evolution Planning & Deployment

    Brief Description

    Reporting to the Manager - RAN Evolution Planning & Deployment, the role holder is responsible for smart Network coverage and capacity Planning using NPS, CQI, Customer Segmentation data, network performance statistics, CDRs, Geo location data, crowd sourcing data, products pricing data and data forecasting tools to work out a data-growth propensity model mapped to revenue. The output will be site prioritization based on customer value and traffic.

    He/She will be responsible for the planning and execution of new Technologies in line with the RAN evolution strategy and work closely with the Technology Strategy team to deliver on the Tech Strategy.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Smart Planning: Generate of Smart Capacity, coverage and Upgrade plans based on customer value. Ensure Proactive generation of smart coverage nominals to maximize business revenue and increase competitive edge of business.
    • New Features: Performs development, testing, and validation of RF (HW &SW) feature plan proposals. Provides input in defining implementation guidelines for approved new features and technologies. Coordinate trial testing for new features.
    • Process Automation: Participate in developing internal process used for radio network design and Optimization. Monitoring processes, tools and behaviors for Automation opportunity identification.
    • Innovation: Continuously researching and engaging key stake holders on new technologies, processes to enhance network. Engages Vendors and Strategy team on hardware and software roadmaps and new RF technologies; 
    • Architecture and Design: Translates business and customer requirements into technology requirements using data and research to make decisions that are competitively and financially robust. Define the architecture and design of RAN systems and solutions to meet current and future business needs.
    • Testing and Evaluation: Defines test cases and acceptance criteria based on user requirements   Reports and interprets test results. Assesses the effectiveness of tests and testing tools.
    • Optimisation: Monitors RAN systems and services to identify performance issues. Troubleshoots and resolves complex network issues end-to-end.

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication Engineering, computer science, IT  or any technical related field
    • Excellent analytical skills and attention to details, Communication and interpersonal skills, Excellent trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
    • 3 years’ experience in telecommunication with hands–on experience in Radio Network planning.
    • Practical knowledge on use of radio planning tools and capacity planning tools, MySQL, M2000, NetAct, Advanced Excel, Erlang-B etc.
    • Experience in process automation and database audits interfacing with planning tools.
    • SQL database queries and scripting for data manipulation, GIS and crowd source analytics is an added advantage.
    • Candidates with experience in Nokia or Huawei RAN equipment will have an added advantage.
    • Practical knowledge of all RATs and interoperability is must.
    • Thorough knowledge in traffic modeling, coverage and capacity forecasting& management. 
    • Knowledge of Core access planning, Paging and LAC dimensioning.

    Engineer - BSS - Regions

    Brief Description 

    Reporting to the Manager, Regional Networks Implementation & Operations the position holder will be involved in the Network elements fault clearance to ensure TCH availability of 99.8%, average NUR of less than 10min per week, and proper preventive maintenance of the BSS network, transmission equipment and the related power supply in owned sites.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Share commercial & technical insights at cluster level.
    • Deliver cluster level network NPS, CA target, CSSR, CDR, MOS, Dl & UL throughput targets and managing customer complaints.
    • Manage and coordinate physical optimization of 2G/3G/4g/5G infrastructure. 
    • Ensure soft Parameter testing & alignment, feature test & deployment, neighbor management and best practice documentation.
    • Analyze statistical KPI trends, DT analysis and carry out remedial actions to resolve emerging quality issues.
    • Trigger replan of 2G/3G/4G/5G technologies in accordance with the agreed capacity, quality and coverage indicators.
    • Continuous Monitoring of cluster level statistical and Benchmark drive test KPI’s and Trigger corrective optimization plans and manage implementation to completion.
    • Ensure all physical changes are updated on ATOLL database. Perform routine audit on sites. Maintain standards 4G/3G/2G parameter rules on all radio database parameters;
    • Manage Network NPS within cluster by customer complaints prioritization solution provision.
    • Identify existing or potential E2E bottlenecks in the mobile network and resolve or escalate to stakeholder for resolution.
    • Generate potential site nominals within cluster in collaboration with commercial teams.
    • Automate routine tasks.

    Qualifications

    • University Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a bias in Telecomm.
    • Undergraduate degree in either Electrical, Telecommunications Engineering or equivalent from a reputable institution. 
    • 1 year telecommunications experience in GSM related field. 
    • 1-year valid Driving License.

    Reporting to the Chapter Lead, HR Service Delivery, the role holder will provide core relevant HR delivery services while ensuring compliance with employment act/standard and company policies and procedures through staff communication, helpdesk administration, document verification and filing, staff badges production and service delivery improvement recommendation.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide 1st level of operational support across the business and externally in various HR Services including compliance, leave of absence, information     management, on boarding/Exit, internal transfers, benefits and payroll, Staff medical.
    • Analysis and reporting of the HR helpdesk function for decision making and improvement on service delivery.
    • Generating & replacing staff Identification Badges
    • Providing support to various sections in HR with communication and branding of information going out to staff.
    • Responsible for the provision of HR Administration services to support relevant initiatives.
    • Responsible for identifying and resolving Employees issues and challenges daily.
    • Support in creating offer letters for all categories of employees including new hires, fixed-term contracts, promotions, lateral moves, internship, job rotations, relocation, confirmation memos, among others.
    • Support in carrying out HR System updates for all contractual changes (location, manager, grade)
    • Support employees by preparing Visa letters to facilitate visa applications.
    • Preparation of employee referral letters for all exit employees
    • Updating, verifying, and endorsing all documented correspondence coming into HR Operations for filing in the personnel files / portal
    • Up to date staff record maintenance on both Oracle HR system and staff personal files.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s Degree and Higher National Diploma in HRM and /or CHRP-K
    • A minimum of 1 - 2 years’ relevant experience.
    • Strong administrative skills with a flair for technological enhancements 
    • Experience with HR information Systems and standard software
    • Good working knowledge of HR practices and labor legislation.
    • The ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
