    Finance and HR Manager-Maternity Cover

    Overview of the role:

    • The Finance Manager position is responsible for the overall financial management of ZSL Kenya. This includes oversight and support of systems and controls, month end processes, reporting, budgeting, as well as providing daily oversight of financial activities, including reviews, and ensuring a robust approval process of daily transactions and data entry into the accounting system (QuickBooks). The post holder also provides relevant financial information to the Senior Management Team and to the London HQ office.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Oversight of the country office financial management processes and policies, ensuring best practice is adhered to in line with the ZSL UK finance, government requirements, and regulations and donor policies.
    • Maintain strong internal financial controls and identify efficiencies to processes where possible.
    • Oversight of finance data entry and data management, ensuring that the Kenya monthly QuickBooks accounts are closed and reported to the UK within the monthly reporting deadlines and that balance sheet accounts are reconciled each month.
    • Assist in the recruitment process, including job postings, screening resumes, conducting interviews, and making job offers.
    • Assist with the implementation of HR policies and procedures.
    • Experience in QuickBooks accounting software
    • Development, review, and implementation of project financial processes and policies.
    • Oversight, management, and development of country office financial processes and policies.
    • Advanced skills in using MS office packages, specifically MS Excel
    • Familiarity with employment laws and regulations.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
    • Human resource Knowledge of HR processes and practices, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, and employee relations.

    Project Manager

    Overview of the role:

    • The purpose of this role is to manage all aspects of the three -year Darwin funded project. The project will look to diversify livelihoods of local communities and promote behaviour change focussed on wild meat consumption around Tsavo. It will also include supporting law enforcement, monitoring illegal wild meat sales and consumption, and monitoring trends in carnivore and prey populations.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Lead on the project delivery including, all project managing workplans, risk register, data analysis, reports, presentations and status meetings.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with partners to ensure activities have the greatest impact and are successful.
    • Manage partner reporting to ensure any funds being sent to partners is reported upon regularly and in line with financial policies.
    • Adaptively manage the project using Conservation Standards
    • Manage budget actuals versus budget monthly and monitoring for project activities in accordance with ZSL procedures.
    • Ensure the project is compliant with all donor requirements and leads all reports to the donor.
    • Line management of one team member - the Wild dog project officer.
    • Plan and facilitate meetings, trainings and workshops from conception through delivery.
    • Ensure compliance to standards, both internal and external, for all projects and conservation activities
    • Ensures strong communication with all stakeholders in the project both internally and externally throughout the project.
    • A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, environment/wildlife or natural resource management, development studies or related fields.
    • At least 4 years of professional experience in project management, particularly in managing budgets and work planning, delivery of project activities, and reporting.
    • Experience of managing a government grant funded project and reporting to a donor
    • Experience of adaptive management and implementing strong project control processes
    • Extensive experience in the development and implementation of conservation activities in Kenya with government and communities
