    Programme Assistant-Humanitarian Action

    Eligibility criteria

    Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

    Description of task

    Under the direct supervision of the Regional Specialist for Humanitarian Action, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

    • Support in the formulation of Programme Strategies:
    • Collect and present background information for the preparation of effective application of RBM tools;
    • Provide programme and administrative support in the preparation of programme work plans, budgets, and proposals on programme implementation arrangements;
    • Assemble briefing materials and prepare power-point and other presentations for the unit.
    • Identify sources, gather and compile data and information for the preparation of documents, guidelines, speeches and position papers.
    • Programme Management Support:
    • Support the Regional Humanitarian Specialist in the implementation of mechanisms for development projects through monitoring of budget preparation and modifications:
    • Support the organisation and implementation of programmatic and policy advice;
    • Support project oversight meetings by taking minutes of meetings and liaising with relevant UNW Offices and other stakeholders:
    • Support efforts for resource mobilization, including preparing background documents and concept notes;
    • Support in Donor reporting and monitoring of implementation of projects
    • Provide necessary information for the audit of programmes/projects and support implementation of audit recommendations;
    • Organize, compile and process information from donors, Country offices, Regional Office, and other relevant programme teams and input to various databases and documents.
    • Provide administrative and financial management support to the Policy and Programme Unit:
    • Support the Humanitarian Specialist in the financial management of programmes;
    • Create requisitions in Atlas for development projects and register of goods receipt in Atlas;
    • Undertake all logistical, administrative and financial arrangements for organization for meetings, workshops, events, and missions;
    • Support in the voucher verification and purchasing for travel, meetings and new vendors;
    • Facilitation of Knowledge Building and Knowledge Sharing:
    • Share relevant information and updates with partners and relevant thematic networks;
    • Support synthesis of lessons learned, and best practices related to programme management and programme finance;
    • Support contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
    • Coordinate project related events, trainings and workshops and compile reports

    Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Development, Humanitarian, Disaster Risk Reduction, Peace Building, Gender or other relevant area to humanitarian, DRR and Resilience Building.

    Required experience: 60 Months Experience remark:

    • Minimum 5 years of progressively relevant professional working experience in programme management support.
    • Specific experience in, Humanitarian, Disaster Risk Reduction, Resilience and Livelihoods and/or in Gender/Women’s Rights.

    Communication and Information Assistant

    Eligibility criteria

    Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

    Description of task

    Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, Djibouti Code of Conduct, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

    • Support the communications needs and develop communication strategies for the Subdivision for Maritime Security and Facilitation and DCOC Project, specifically profiling activities being implemented and impact to member States.
    • Support the development of, and thereafter, upkeep of the DCoC website
    • Assist in the development of communications products including project fact sheets, briefs, project reports, monthly or bi-monthly bulletins and annual reports among others
    • Support the development of communications messaging, materials and campaigns
    • Write success stories, newsletters and features.
    • Support the team in developing a video and digital photo library
    • Ensure that DCoC branding and messaging is consistent in all relevant documents and publications.
    • Assist the DCoC external relations activities and media events including exhibitions, report launches, press conferences, receptions and meetings
    • In coordination with the Project Manager expand the organization’s presence in social media including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc.
    • Assist to disseminate DCoC advocacy materials
    • Carry out other relevant duties as may be assigned by the Program Manager

    Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, international relations, public relations or related field;

    Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:

    • At least, three years progressively responsible professional work experience in internal or external communication; social media work, public relations; or journalism; of which two years ideally should be with online resources;
    • Proven internal communication experience, particularly with practical knowledge of intra-net management (both content and technical aspects);
    • Proven experience of managing web resources and dealing with social media networks, with a focus on content development, writing, design and multimedia;
    • Excellent spoken, writing and editing skills in English, with the ability to translate complex ideas and concepts into reader-friendly language;
    • Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and execute ideas, as well as impart knowledge and teach skills;
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills; as well as good organizational skills;
    • Proven ability and experience in photography, both still and video
    • Ability to plan and work in a high-pressure work environment under tight deadlines. Professional experience

    • Thoroughness and excellent attention to detail in all responsibilities, ensuring accuracy in delivering and implementation
    • Knowledge of maritime transport or Maritime security will be an added advantage.

    Communication and Outreach Officer

    Description of task

    Under The Direct Supervision Of The Regional Infromation Officer, The National UN Volunteer Will Undertake The Following Tasks Focused On The EU Funded Project On Lake Turkana And Its River Basins In The Context Of The Ecosystem Management And Biodiversity Sub-programme In Africa

    • Research and drafting of articles, success stories, news features;
    • Support the development of multimedia products and their dissemination to target audiences;
    • Disseminate information materials to the media, coordinate interviews, organize press conferences and briefings, monitor press coverage of UN Environment in the African Region;
    • Support the organisation of stakeholders’ meetings, media trainings events on communication and outreach;
    • Participate in the design, development and implementation of campaigns and special events;
    • Develop communication and outreach plans, in close liaison with the project manager, and participate in the implementation of the plans in partnersghip with other organisations involved in the Support to the Effective Cooperation and Coordination of Cross-border Initiatives (SECCCI) project;
    • Support the project manager in resource mobilisation and engagement with partners;
    • Support the engagement of media to raise the visibility of UN Environment’s work on transboundary water resurces management in the project countries (Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia) and how this links to the ecosystems and biodiversity sub-programme in Africa;
    • Develop content on ecosystem services and biodiversity as well as other areas of work for the web and social media platforms;
    • Monitor and analyse current events, public opinion and press coverage, identifying issues and trends, and follow upon appropriate action/responses;
    • Undertake any other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time for the effective and efficient functioning of the communications unit’s support to the project and sub-programme

    Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

    • Communications, Journalism, Public information or a related field

    Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:

    • The candidate should have excellent writing skills. He/She should be familiar with managing contacts and networking with the media, non-governmental organizations, government officials, international and national organizations, business groups, civil society, etc. is necessary;
    • Demonstrated experience in public information and/or public relations and/or experience as part of a strategic communications team and proven skills in public speaking;
    • Experience in journalism and/or public information is mandatory;
    • Experience working with the United Nations or a comparable international organization is desirable;
    • Practical experience in the field of environment, politics, economics, social sciences, civil society mobilization and empowerment, sustainable development project related work is an advantage;
    • Good skills in the use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and internet communications.
