    Executive Officer

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Executive Officer will:

    • Support the Section Director to design, manage, document, communicate, and track the implementation of the deliberations of the quarterly Board meetings and Annual Delegates Conference, Preparatory and Nominations Committees (40%).
    • Support Chairperson, Board members, and Section Director with logistical and intellectual resources to enable them to represent the organisation to the Amnesty movement and elsewhere (30%). 
    • Ensure the management and governance activities are clearly budgeted, timely requisitioned for, and reported in the organisational monitoring, evaluation, and learning tools (10%). 
    • Coordinate and document the meetings of the Weekly and Management team, communicate decisions to the team, track action points, and ensure implementation (20%).

    WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE IN THIS JOB?  

    • Board and committee chairpersons and members left informed, coordinated, and effectively prepared for all Board, committee, and Annual Delegates meetings with adequate notice, high-quality information, clear areas for decision-making, and confidence that their decisions are being implemented fully. 
    • Section Director, Chairperson, and other office bearers in the first instance, other Board members are supported to accurately and powerfully represent Amnesty Kenya and build circles of conscience and public awareness and support for AIK work.
    • Amnesty International movement engaged, left informed of Amnesty Kenya’s impact and influenced by our positions and advise.
    • Organisational calendar as well as management and all staff meetings and processes are coordinated and documented to ensure cohesion, staff safety, and leaderful and value-based interaction.
    • Effective coordination of Section Director’s email in-tray and meetings as well as delegating where necessary.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    ESSENTIAL

    • A degree in social sciences, management, or another appropriate discipline. 
    • Commitment to realising the Kenyan constitution and Amnesty’s organisational values, vision, and policy positions.
    • Clear understanding of organizational strategy, governance, and the role of Boards.
    • Excellent levels of ethical and inter-personal skills, confidence and tact.
    • Excellent analytical, presentation, and good working knowledge of technology systems, including Microsoft, cloud-based storage, and team management software.
    • Proven ability to react to fast-changing political situations, exercising and promoting creative thinking. 
    • At least 5 years of relevant experience working in international, multi-locational or complex organisations.

    DESIRABLE

    • Significant experience in liaising with diverse stakeholders from government, civic and businesses.
    • Demonstrated experience with survey and other information crowd-sourcing tools.
    • Current membership in one or more associations or networks.

    Fundraising Officer

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Fundraising Officer will:

    • Coordinate the growth of individual giving, regular and one-off donations, by operationalising the Public Defenders Fund, managing accurate CRM records, and producing compelling donor communications, including appeals, pitches, newsletters, and impact reports.
    • Support the Fundraising Manager in identifying and cultivating High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) prospects by preparing tailored major gift proposals, developing Public Defenders Fund–inspired pitches, and managing stewardship plans to retain long-term high-value donors.
    • Strengthen diaspora fundraising by supporting outreach strategies in key markets, deepening partnerships with AI-USA and AI-UK, coordinating virtual and in-person engagements with Diaspora Champions, and producing diaspora-specific communication materials.
    • Plan and execute impactful fundraising events, such as galas, auctions, and webinars, while managing budgets, logistics, vendor relationships, and post-event reporting and follow-up.
    • Working with the Head of Programmes, serve as the link between the Fundraising and Programmes teams by collecting and consolidating existing program data and MEL findings provided by the Programmes.
    • Analyze consolidated program data and translate it into engaging, accurate, and ethical impact narratives and visual reports specifically tailored for external donor audiences.
    • Contribute to the organisations MEL plans by maintaining key dashboards related to fundraising outcomes and ensuring compliance with donor reporting requirements and data ethics standards.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    ESSENTIAL

    • Commitment to the Kenyan constitution, Amnesty values and policy positions.
    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Development Studies, Monitoring and Evaluation or related field.
    • At least 3 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, monitoring and evaluation or business development.
    • Demonstrated experience of raising at least KES. 500,000 across diverse funding streams by developing compelling proposals, cultivating individual and corporate donor relationships, and campaigns.
    • Strong networking and relationship-building skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience in event planning and project management.
    • Familiarity with CRM systems and fundraising software.
    • Demonstrated experience in MEL, including data collection, basic analysis, reporting, and use of MEL tools or frameworks.
    • Strategic thinking and creativity in donor engagement.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    DESIRABLE

    • Demonstrated ability to produce engaging photos, videos, and written posts that resonate with different audiences.
    • Demonstrated ability to research, qualify, and successfully approach corporate partners or high-value foundation prospects.
    • Experience using statistical software packages or data visualisation tools to present impact data clearly.
    • Knowledge of digital fundraising trends, including social media and online giving platforms.
    • Familiarity with human rights-based programming and organising frameworks.
