    Assistant Director, Medical Laboratory Services (1 Position)

    Requirements for Appointment:

    • Served in the grade of Principal Medical Laboratory Officer for a minimum period of three (3) years;
    • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or any other equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board;
    • Master Degree in any of the following: - Medical Parasitology, Medical Parasitology and Entomology, Medical Entomology, Clinical Chemistry, Medical Biochemistry, Hematology, Blood Transfusion Science, Medical Microbiology, Virology, Medical Bacteriology, Mycology, Clinical Cytology, Histopathology, Immunology, Epidemiology, Public Health (Epidemiology), Infectious Disease Diagnosis, Laboratory Management, Molecular Science or any other equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board;
    • Registration Certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Technicians and Technologists Board;
    • Valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Technicians and Technologists Board;
    • Certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
    • Certificate in computer application skills from recognized institutions; and
    • Demonstrated a high degree of professional competence and administrative capability; and
    • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results. 

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Implementing laboratory policies, guidelines, strategies and programmes;, 
    • Supervising the preparation of reagents, tins and examination specimens, 
    • Verifying and approving laboratory findings and results;
    • providing specifications for the procurement of medical laboratory reagents, apparatus and equipment;
    • overseeing the maintenance of equipment for clinical testing, vector and insecticide application monitoring and evaluation;
    • investigating disease outbreaks in liaison with other health care providers; 
    • supervising the archiving of specimen of medical importance for reference; 
    • liaising with stakeholders in mapping and surveying of vector borne diseases, communicable and non-communicable disease;
    • undertaking medical Laboratory collaborative research; and 
    • preparing periodical reports.
