    Nurse Navigator, Department of Haematology/Onclogy

    Job Summary

    The Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator will coordinate the breast cancer patient care journey from presentation or referral to its conclusion. To be a point of contact, information and support for complex breast cancer care by individualizing assistance and care for breast cancer patients and their families/caregivers; by eliminating barriers to timely care, facilitating flow through system, facilitating interactions with relevant hospital services, increasing breast cancer patient and provider satisfaction and supporting the inter-professional cancer care team.

    Responsibilities

    • Assess breast cancer patients upon initial encounter and periodically throughout navigation, matching unmet needs with appropriate services, referrals and support services e.g. providers, dietetics, social work, finance teams etc.
    • Assess and identify potential and realized barriers to care (e.g. transportation, language, culture, literacy, psychosocial, employment, financial and insurance) and facilitate referrals as appropriate to mitigate barriers.
    • Act as central point of contact for all breast cancer patients identified to require navigation; including interaction with clinical, nursing, ancillary services.
    • Facilitates timely scheduling of appointments, diagnostic testing, and procedures to expedite the plan of care and promote continuity of care.
    • Participates in coordination of the plan of care with the multidisciplinary team, promoting timely follow-up on treatment and supportive care recommendations. This includes patient reports, letters for care support and coordination with internal and external clinical teams, insurance companies, travel agencies where required and also follow-up on patients’ treatments with pharmacy as directed by the clinical teams.
    • Facilitates individualized care within the context of functional status, cultural consideration, health literacy, and psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patients, family and the care giver.
    • Applies basic knowledge of insurance processes (e.g. corporates, SHIF) and their impact on staging, referrals, and patient care decisions towards establishing appropriate referrals as needed.
    • Uses an ethical framework regarding patient care to assist patients with breast cancer with issues related to treatment goals, advance directives, palliative care, and end of life concerns.
    • Supports a smooth transition of breast cancer patients from active treatment into survivorship and end of life care.
    • Provides psychosocial support to and facilitates appropriate referrals for breast cancer patients, families, and caregivers, especially during periods of high emotional stress and anxiety.
    • Empowers breast cancer patients and families through education and encouragement to self-advocate and communicate their needs.
    • Assesses and promotes healthy lifestyle choices and self-care strategies through education and appropriate referrals to ancillary services.
    • Provides anticipatory guidance, education, and appropriate referrals to assist breast cancer patients in coping with the diagnosis of cancer and its potential or expected outcomes.
    • In collaboration with other members of the healthcare team, build partnerships with local agencies and groups that may assist with cancer patient care, support, or educational needs.
    • Participate in unit based continuing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC), audits, spot checks and skill checks.

    Requirements

    •  Registered Nurse from a recognized Nursing School or University
    • Current Licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Post Graduate Diploma in Oncology will be an added advantage
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Minimum 4 years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital three (3) of which must have been in oncology/chemotherapy unit.
    • Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of current practices in breast cancer management
    • Strong organizational skills with ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
    • Excellent written and verbal and interpersonal communication skills

    Technician-ICT Support Engineer, Infrastructure

    Job Summary

    The Support Engineer will provide timely and reliable technical support to a wide range of users in the institution.

    Responsibilities

    • Planning for routine checks and connecting in liaison with Support Section Coordinator to ensure proper support of all centres.
    • Participating in routine maintenance checks on hardware status, user system utilization and stabilization, and one on one guidance on queries arising from the users about the HIMS module features.
    • Installing HIMS software on all end user PCs, making sure that end user PCs are pointing to the right server for auto updating and performing routine manual updates on the local PCS as case may be.
    • Coordinating with other support engineer to come up with a problems analysis and resolutions.
    • Participating in audio-visual support services to ensure continuity of service.
    • Ensuring that hardware for end users is properly distributed and upgraded in readiness for the implementation of HIMS, and give complete inventory documentation.
    • Coordinating the proper organization of the premises and ensuring that all equipment is well labelled.
    • Monitoring equipment held in the department and ensuring that it is updated, tracked in the helpdesk, and communicated to the support team leader.
    • Participating in all team efforts as departmental needs arise.

    Requirements

    • Diploma in Information Technology or its equivalent.
    • Demonstrable experience in helpdesk management and customer care.
    • N+, A+, MCSE/A, CISCO (CCNA) will be an added advantage.
    • Minimum of 1 year experience in ICT Support in a busy institution or 2 years' experience in IT related field.
    • Networking, hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
    • Remarkable ability to follow through on tasks assigned.
    • Proficient in MS Office suite.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Sound time-management skills.

    Unit Assistant- Temporary , Nursing

    Responsibilities:

    • Assists the nurse with basic nursing care activities such as bathing patients, turning, mobilizing and oral feeding.
    • Prepares beds for admissions, and ensures requirements for each bed space such as oxygen and suction apparatus are available and in working order
    • Carbonizes beds upon patient discharge, and cleans other unit equipment such as BP machines, infusion pumps, bedside lockers, drip stands, bed pans and procedure trolleys using infection control cleaning guidelines 
    • Responsible for cleanliness and tidiness of utility and linen rooms.
    • Escorts stable patients to various diagnostic and procedure departments
    • Assists the nurse to maintain patient’s bed space and the unit as a whole clean and tidy
    • Assists the nurse manager in linen management. This includes sending dirty linen to laundry, receiving clean ones and maintaining linen inventory book
    • Ensures used procedure packs are returned complete to CSSD.
    • Performs messengerial duties within and outside the unit.
    • Receives incoming calls and refers them to the appropriate persons.
    • Alerts the nurse manager about dissatisfied clients, incidences and any other unusual occurrences in the unit.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum O ’level Certificate.
    • Experience as patient attendant or care giver in an acute or tertiary health facility
    • Heart Saver Training
    • Training in Health Care Assistance will considered an added advantage

    Physiotherapist, Outreach Clinic Town

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct initial evaluation and assessment of patients referred for physiotherapy
    • Identify treatment goals and appropriate therapy techniques and proceed to administer them
    • Conduct patient and family education
    • Conduct regular evaluation of patients to assess progress and response to therapy, revise treatment program as necessary to achieve goals

    Requirements:

    • Applicants should have Diploma in Physiotherapy from a recognized Institution.
    • Registered with the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya.
    • 2 years working experience in physiotherapy
    • Training in basic life support. 
    • Knowledge of assessment/evaluation techniques in regards to patients, be proactive, have excellent customer service skills.

    Unit Coordinator, Nursing- Temporary

    Responsibilities:

    • Update daily census on the computer system and ensures accurate bed allocation and billing class for the patients in the unit.
    • Manage Unit admissions, transfers and discharges, and communicates these movements to the Nurse Manager.
    • Ensure accurate filing of patients’ records such as insurance forms, diagnostic and clinical reports as per hospital policy.
    • Ensure availability of required stationery in the unit and in the nursing stations.
    • Responsible for unit stocks and prompt billing of used consumables, drugs and professional fees after unit procedures.
    • Assist the nurse manager with distribution and collection of Satisfaction Survey Questionnaires and is familiar with the Complaint handling System.
    • Maintains open communication of available beds for admission with patient services staff and duty managers.
    • Maintains physician fee for service book and ensure physicians have signed after ward rounds/procedures.
    • Responds to enquiries by visitors and staff and provides appropriate directions.
    • Alerts nurse manger about dissatisfied clients, incidences and any other unusual occurrences.
    • Ensures patient records are sent to Medical Records Department upon patient discharge.
    • Collaborates with Consulting Clinic staff to make follow up appointments for discharged patients
    • Handles incoming calls and directs them to the appropriate persons.
    • Works closely with security officer of the unit to control visitors.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum O ’level Certificate
    • Certificate/experience in Front Office Management. 
    • Heart saver certification is an added advantage.
    • Knowledge in Computer Operations.
