    Consulting Service Line, Financial Services, Risk, Senior Consultant

    EY's Financial Services Risk (FSR) practice is an advisory unit that provides risk management support to banks, insurers and asset managers. Our team includes individuals who have industry, client and product knowledge as well as quantitative, regulatory, project management and technology professionals. We are seeking a Senior Consultant to join our team. Along with our team, you'll work together to coordinate the delivery of risk management, regulatory and business performance services to a variety of clients, including commercial banks, investment banks, broker-dealers, asset managers, insurance and energy trading companies, and other organizations. 

    Your Key Responsibilities:

    • You will assist in the delivery of key projects for our clients on a wide range of topics
    • You will create innovative and commercial insights for clients, adapt methods and practices to fit operational teams and cultural needs, and contribute to thought leadership
    • You will contribute to improving operational efficiency on projects and internal initiatives, consistently driving projects to completion making sure that the work delivered is best in class
    • You will be expected to manage your time and be responsible for delivering to both clients and internal stakeholders, keeping a clear focus on anticipating and identifying risks, and escalate issues as appropriate
    • Working closely with colleagues, you will create a positive learning culture and coach and counsel junior team members and help them to develop
    • You will contribute to the development of EY capabilities in technical areas and engage with clients regarding the application of these methodologies to their businesses
    • You will collaborate with colleagues outside of Africa Actuarial Services to deliver multi-disciplinary and cross-geographical work
    • Responsible for technical accuracy and implementation of work.
    • Translates Actuarial concepts into client - friendly terminology.
    • Assist in year-end audit on technical provisions (including preparing and validating data)
    • Assist in IFRS 17 implementation projects.

    Skills and Attributes for success:

    • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and demonstrated knowledge in insurance, credit, market risk and operational risk measurement and project management
    • Self-motivated and willing to ask probing questions to identify client opportunities
    • Possess strong communication, presentation and technical writing skills to describe ideas, concepts and issues that involve interpretation, analysis and assessment of complex conceptual topics. Should be keen to details
    • Solid internal and external business development acumen
    • Team player and excellent communicator

    To qualify for the role, you must have:

    • Bachelor’s degree required in Actuarial Science, Statistics or Mathematics
    • Minimum 3 years of relevant technical experience
    • Professional qualifications (Either partly qualified or newly qualified actuary (FIA, FASSA, FSA) with a good actuarial exam record)
    • A risk management designation such as FRM or CERA would be an added advantage
    • Successful track record in Insurance, gained through working for a provider directly or a top tier consultancy or a specialist financial services consultancy Experience working with data and performing related analysis including knowledge of programming languages such as SAS, R, Python or matlab.
    • Possess the desire and ability to work closely with quantitative and technology professionals on engagements.

    To qualify for the role, you must have:

    • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience working in strategy consulting
    • Have credible project management experience and demonstrate an ability to plan, deliver, structure, write and present work against tight deadlines
