    Programme Support Intern

    Key Responsibilities

    • Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme and the direct supervision of the PLEAD Programme Manager, and in close technical collaboration with Associate Programme Officers, programme staff, and consultants within the Criminal Justice Programme in ROEA, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks:
    • Substantive Support: - Assist in implementing the Programme’s initiatives on crime prevention and criminal justice.
    • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on issues related to crime prevention and criminal justice.
    • Programme Planning and Coordination: - Participate in the planning and execution of activities, including meetings, workshops, conferences, and training sessions.
    • Draft detailed reports, minutes, and summaries for Programme-related events.
    • Documentation and Presentation Development: Contribute to the preparation of background documents, presentations, talking points, and speeches for Programme activities.
    • Develop briefing materials and other relevant documentation for meetings and events involving stakeholders and partners, including other UN agencies.
    • Communications and Visibility: - Support the creation, review, and updating of social media content to enhance the visibility of the Programme's activities and outcomes.
    • Administrative Support: - Assist in procurement-related tasks, such as drafting terms of reference and other relevant documentation.
    • Other Duties: - Perform additional tasks as required to support the successful implementation of the Programme’s objectives.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    • be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
    • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
    • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
    • However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

    Driver (Temporary)

    Responsibilities

    • Within assigned authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific duties: Drive officials and authorized UN staff to and from various destinations in and around Nairobi and Nyeri.
    • Deliver and collect mail, documents, and other items to Government Offices, National Police Service and UN Offices.
    • Drive office vehicles for the transport of the UNODC/TOC programme and operations staff and facilitate VIP missions.
    • Records all trip-details in the vehicle movement log sheet, fuel consumption, defects noted, tire condition, vehicle tools and other particulars, report when vehicle is due for scheduled service, etc. and ensure that the relevant documents such as insurance are valid. • Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Kenya Highway Code and takes prompt action in the event of an accident.
    • Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies, including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle
    • Make regular deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the UN office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc.
    • Make minor purchases and collect urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested. Collect goods from the customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities. May make or collect payment for goods.
    • Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required.
    • Deal effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
    • Take care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean.
    • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
    • Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
    • Apply good judgment in the context of assignments given.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Driver training with a valid driver’s license is required.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of two years of experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.
    • The minimum number of years of relevant experience is reduced to none for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
    • Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, SUVs and other kinds of motorized vehicles is required.
    • Experience in Kenya Government motor vehicle related processes and procedures is desirable.
    • Experience in applying the Kenya Highway Code is desirable.
    • Experience in Logistic functions is desirable. Work experience within the United Nations system or a similar international organization is desirable.
