The Plumbing Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of plumbing systems on construction sites and existing housing structures. This includes systems related to potable water supply, wastewater drainage, stormwater disposal, and sanitation in compliance with building codes and safety standards. The technician is expected to work closely with site engineers, contractors, and other technical teams to ensure quality workmanship and timely execution of plumbing works in construction sites and housing structures.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Construction
- Read and interpret construction drawings, plumbing schematics, and technical specifications to execute plumbing layouts accurately.
- Install water supply and distribution piping, sanitary fixtures, drainage systems, venting systems, and water tanks in residential and commercial buildings.
- Perform soldering, threading, gluing, and welding of pipes (PVC, copper, GI, PPR, HDPE, etc.) as required.
- Ensure all pipework is correctly supported, aligned, and installed to design slope and pressure standards.
Testing & Commissioning
- Conduct pressure testing, leak detection, and system flushing to verify system integrity before handover.
- Participate in inspections with consultants, site supervisors, or regulatory authorities.
- Complete commissioning checklists and contribute to final system certification.
Maintenance & Repairs
- Diagnose faults in plumbing systems and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
- Maintain installed systems to ensure continuous safe plumbing systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks as per maintenance schedules.
Safety, Compliance, and Reporting
- Adhere to all occupational health and safety (OHS) standards and promote safe working practices on site.
- Ensure compliance with local plumbing codes, environmental standards, and project specifications.
- Report any potential hazards, unsafe practices, or non-compliant installations to supervisors.
- Maintain daily activity logs, record completed works, and report progress or material usage.
Coordination & Site Support
- Collaborate with other trades (electrical, HVAC, masonry, etc.) to avoid service clashes and ensure smooth site coordination.
- Participate in toolbox talks, technical briefings, and site meetings when required.
- Assist in the preparation of material requisitions and ensure proper handling and storage of plumbing materials and tools.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Craft Certificate in Plumbing, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- At least 5 years’ hands-on experience in plumbing works in the building and construction sector.
- Proven knowledge of local plumbing regulations, codes, and international standards (e.g., IPC or BS standards).
- Experience working on large-scale or multi-storey building projects is most preferred.
