    Agronomy Specialist

    Job Description

    Accountable for providing agronomy advice and support to the crop and block managers.  Accountable for the health of the crop.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Providing the pertinent technical advice to the crop managers for the production of year-round, high-quality fresh Red Onion, Tomatoes and Watermelon in line with our client’s product demand planning.
    • Execute Crop scouting, irrigation scheduling/nutrient management/crop protection advice.
    • Integrate high-tech monitoring systems to support the decision-making for top-quality, high-yielding crops
    • Undertaking relevant crop trials focused on improving crop production and quality to advise the crop production managers in better methods of production.
    • Crop forecasting model from the Agronomic team.
    • Analyze data of all trends to provide forecasting and early warnings of cropping challenges to the crop production managers.
    • Ensure food safety compliance through the client’s value chain in line with relevant codes of practice.
    • Retain a high standard of Health and Safety.

    Qualifications

    • A degree in Agriculture/horticulture or associated disciplines. BASIS & FACTS qualifications an advantage. A valid Kenya driving license.
    • Skill level: A minimum of 5 years direct agronomy support within the fresh produce industry with relevant experience in Kenya.

    Block Managers Tomatoes and Onions

    Job Description

    Block managers are accountable for the production of a crop in the specific block in a pivot.  A pivot is divided into four (4) blocks.  A Block Manager is assigned single or multiple blocks under a pivot (20-50hectares).

    Key Responsibilities

    • Production of year-round, high-quality fresh Tomatoes/onions in line with our clients product demand planning
    • From land preparation and planting through the crop production process to harvest up to packhouse level.
    • Implementation of the advice given by the Agronomy team for irrigation and nutrition/crop protection.
    • A key focus on harvest team management and personnel management of up to 250 harvesters for tomatoes and additional support staff daily. 
    • Yearly and seasonal crop production planning, in line with our clients demand planning and quality specifications with a current planting program of 6 ha of Tomatoes every week. All grown under centre pivot irrigation
    • Training and development of the Tomato team for continual professional improvement.
    • Retaining good staff working relations and a high standard of Health and Safety.

    Qualifications

    • A degree in Agriculture/horticulture or associated disciplines. BASIS & FACTS qualifications an advantage. A valid Kenya driving license.
    • Skill level: A minimum of 7 years direct accountability for production of crops on an acreage of 25 – 50ha, within the fresh produce industry,

    Crop Production Manager Onions

    Job Description

    Complete responsibility for all farm operations relating to Red Bulb onion production, from planting through to post harvest drying.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Production of year-round, high quality fresh Red Bulb onion in line with our clients product demand planning.
    • From land preparation and planting, through the crop production process to mechanized harvest and drying/curing of the onion, using a highly mechanized precision farming approach. 
    • Crop production forecasting for the packhouse to relay key information ahead for our clients to manage the sales pipeline more effectively.
    • Implementation of the advice given from the Agronomy team for irrigation/nutrition/crop protection.
    • Operational management and coordination with the GM and other crop managers to produce weekly work plans.
    • Yearly and seasonal crop production planning, in line with our clients demand planning and quality specifications with a current planting program currently of 17 ha of Red Onion every week. All grown under center pivot irrigation.
    • Working closely with the clients Value Chain expert for Red Onion Red Bulb onion to produce a world class cropping ‘blueprint’ for our client to replicate in other regions.
    • Training and development of the Onion/Tomato team for continual professional improvement
    • Retaining good staff working relations and a high standard of Health and Safety.

    Qualifications

    • A degree in Agriculture/horticulture or associated disciplines. BASIS & FACTS qualifications an advantage. A valid Kenya driving license.
    • Skill level: A minimum of 5 years at Managerial level, preferably within the fresh produce industry with relevant experience in Kenya. Vegetable production with a high level of mechanized operations is an advantage.

    Crop Production Manager Tomatoes

    Job Description

    Mechanization and Engineering Manager

    Job Description

    Responsible for the allocation of resources for all mechanized operations, management of the center pivot irrigation for all crops grown on 500 ha of irrigated land and ensuring all farm equipment is maintained and kept in good working order.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Providing precision machinery and irrigation service to the crop managers for production of year-round, to attain the highest crop yield of high quality fresh Red Onion, Tomatoes and Water melon in line with the clients product demand planning
    • Coordination of all mechanized operations from cultivations, planting, fertilizer application, crop protection products through to mechanized harvesting
    • Maintenance of center pivots and irrigation equipment and fabrication of necessary equipment for farm operations.
    • Timely preventative maintenance and repairs of all farm equipment, focused on machinery being available at the correct timings for crop production and post-harvest farm operations.
    • Training and development of operators on problem identification and reporting with all machinery.
    • Training and development of the tractor and machinery operations team and the workshop and machinery operation team for continual professional improvement.
    • Working closely with the clients Value Chain experts for all crops to produce a world class cropping ‘blueprint’ for the client to replicate in other regions.
    • Retaining good staff working relations and a high standard of Health and Safety.

    Qualifications

    • A degree in Agricultural engineering or associated disciplines. A valid Kenya driving license.
    • Skill level: A minimum of 10 years at Mechanization and Engineering Managerial level, within the fresh produce industry with relevant experience in Kenya.

    Post-Harvest Manager

    Job Description

    Complete responsibility for all post-harvest operations, for grading and packing operations at Taveta for all crops grown.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Heading the packhouse team to maintain the high quality fresh Red Onion, Tomatoes and Watermelon in line with our client’s product demand planning.
    • Coordination and implantation of the order process from our clients combined with crop production forecasting from the crop specific managers.
    • Overseeing the mechanized processing lines for each crop.
    • Consistent product quality delivery to customer.
    • Harvest coordination with the crop specific managers and product quality communication feedback to the field harvest teams.
    • Working closely with the clients Value Chain experts for all crops to produce a world class cropping ‘blueprint’ for our clients to replicate in other regions.
    • Training and development of the packhouse team for continual professional improvement.
    • Retaining good staff working relations and a high standard of Health and Safety.

    Qualifications

    • A degree in Agriculture or associated disciplines. A valid Kenya driving license.
    • Skill level:  A minimum of 10 years at and export focused (EU/UK) Packhouse Managerial level, within the fresh produce industry with relevant experience in Kenya in a highly mechanized farm.
