    Intern, Data Learning

    Job purpose

    An intern with Data Learning, MLE directly supports the evidence-driven work that Evidence Action does. Concisely, the holder of this position will work primarily with the Associate, DL to support the key departmental drive of translating analytical output into reports, visuals and dashboards customized for various audiences such as program staff, donors and management. He/She will also take part in reporting findings in various in-house meetings, both in-person and virtually.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Create periodic high quality is written and visual reports and presentations for program teams and donor reporting.
      • The position holder will be primarily charged with supporting the reporting function for the Deworm the World Initiative.
    • Translate analytical output into useful insights for decision making
    • Provide support during training and mentorships of MLE field teams, in preparation for the routine bi-monthly report disseminations with programs.
    • Explore new and innovative analytical and visualization tools and avenues to showcase MLE work
    • Routinely attend meetings within MLE and across various programs as required
    • Support in the writing of a quarterly MLE newsletter
    • Identify innovative methods or tools for conducting MLE work & pilot these innovations

    Key Performance Indicators

    • Timely report development and dissemination to the program
    • Periodic delivery of analytical output in new areas/with new tools
    • Fluency in the articulation of findings both orally and in written form through reports, visuals

    Qualifications

    • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Data Journalism, Maths or Economics
    • Specialized knowledge: Working knowledge of at least one data and image visualization software – Tableau/PowerBI, Piktochart, Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or GIMP.
    • Working knowledge of mapping software. Either ArcGIS or QGIS.
    • Essential skills: Ability to work with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
    • Experience in developing reports and presentations from data analysis output/ transforming data into insight.

    • Abilities: Excellent report writing skills, ability to work with large amounts of information and see the ‘bigger picture’; critical thinking: ability to look at numbers, trends and data and come to a new conclusions based on findings, excellent writing skills; creativity or passion for design
    • Characteristics: Pro-active; Strong communication skills; Creative/Thinking out of the box, Eye for detail and Love for data.
    • Must be confident when making presentations to a large audience and facilitating meetings.
    • Proven work experience in data analytics or data visualization.
    • Proven ability to work with tight timelines.

    Community Service Assistant, Program Implementation

    Job purpose

    The Community Service Assistant (CSA) position is primarily a field-based position which plays an important role as an interface between Dispensers for Safe Water (DSW) and the communities it serves. This position ensures a sufficient and uninterrupted supply of chlorine and service/maintenance of the installed chlorine dispensers. This in turn enables the community to access safe water hence improving their livelihood through the reduction of waterborne diseases.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Conducting dispenser hardware service and maintenance through regular spot checks to ensure proper functionality
    • Installing chlorine dispensers whenever necessary, in line with the organization’s protocols, specifications and guidelines
    • Delivering chlorine, via motorcycle, to chlorine dispensers located at water points, as assigned
    • Ensure safe handling and accountability of chlorine and dispenser part stocks in the store, office and designated sites
    • Proper record-keeping by completing relevant forms, documents, and records that are important in inventory tracking
    • Engaging the target community and promoter volunteers to promote dispenser usage, handle any/all possible challenges, and report the same to the supervisor
    • Collecting all field data for program assessment and accountability, by use of smartphones
    • Maintaining high integrity and stewardship of the organizational assets and program field materials assigned for work execution

    • Dispenser functionality rates
    • Sustained Functional Dispenser numbers
    • Promoter retention

    Qualifications

    • Minimum-KCSE graduate C- grade and at least a Certificate in communication, Community work, Social work, project management or equivalent.
    • Certificate in computer skills in MS office suite.
    • Stock management experience/qualifications are an added advantage
    • 1-2 years of experience working with communities or social enterprises/NGOs
    • Motorcycle riding experience with a valid driving license from a recognized driving school is a MUST
    • Fluency in English, Kiswahili
