    Essential Qualifications

    • Minimum grade of D+(plus) in KCSE
    • Minimum of 2 years working experience in data entry preferable within a busy research set-up.
    • Good Clinical practice (GCP) certificate

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • The Data entry Clerk will report to the data manager to perform the following tasks.
    • Ensure timely and accurate data entry into the database(s) – meet data team allocated targets
    • Communicate closely with Data Manager to ensure priority tasks are completed.
    • Work with the Data Specialist to ensure that data is routinely backed up, and uphold maximum data confidentiality
    • Deal with routine problems or issues that arise during data entry
    • Attending quality control meetings.
    • Liaising with data manager to track and schedule study visits.
    • To assist in other duties that may be assigned by the data manager

    Terms of Employment: Contract for 1 year, renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 month.

    Clerk - Community Interviewer

    Job Description

    The community interviewers will report directly to product manager and will be responsible for collecting timely and accurate data in their assigned households and health facilities

    Essential Requirements

    • A Minimum mean grade of D+ plus in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education
    • Must be able to ride a motorcycle
    • Should have a valid driver’s license free of any encumbrance and valid for the class of motorcycle
    • Must be willing to reside within the study area
    • Able to speak, read and write in English and Kiswahili
    • Ability to speak Teso would be an added advantage
    • Experience working with CHVs in the community would be an added advantage

    Skills, knowledge and Abilities

    • Must be able to operate and take care of an electronic data collection instrument such as a tablet.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively with members of the community.

    Specific tasks and responsibilities

    The community interviewers’ responsibilities shall include and not limited to the following:

    • Supervise distribution and replacement of Envelopes by community health volunteers (CHVs)
    • Coordinate with the CHVs and develop and distribution and replacement plan for Envelopes
    • Distribution of Envelopes to the CHVs each morning and collection of used and unused Envelopes for storage at the respective study storage facilities.
    • Plan appropriately to ensure availability of all supplies required for product distribution and replacement
    • Ensure that data on Envelope distribution and replacement is captured accurately and completely using the tablets
    • Attend study debriefing meetings and present reports on progress within assigned clusters
    • Be courteous, respectful, honest, proactive, conscientious, punctual and hardworking
    • Complete any other duties assigned or delegated by the management

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    • Work with finance on activities related to budgets for new funding, project/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, developing and planning budgets for each project strategic
    • area and assists in forecasting future resource needs.
    • Track expenditure and prepare timely reports for submission to Project Manager, PIs, Partners and Donors
    • Review financial and administrative vouchers and monitor MPESA payments.
    • Recommend approvals of project operating invoices and vouchers for payment.
    • Liaise with finance to ensure funds are available before processing LPOs and with relevant departments to ensure Request for Purchases is completed for timely procurement and delivery of project supplies.
    • Maintain an inventory register and conduct unannounced inventories inspection to ensure all assets are available and maintained per schedule.

    • Liaise with Human Resource on hiring and orientation of project staff.

    Data Manager

    Job Summary:

    The data analyst’s position requires the incumbent to perform various data management, processing and analysis functions for the influenza program in an accurate and timely fashion. The data analyst will also assist with management of the laboratory related data for other FHU related studies.

    Essential qualifications

    • Bachelors Degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, computer science or any related field from a recognized training institution
    • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a busy data processing, management and analysis field.
    • Excellent knowledge and working experience of at least one statistical package for data manipulation and analysis (STATA, SPSS, SAS, R) and one database management software (SQL server, MS Access).
    • Knowledge of Visual Basic® and other programming languages in the NET environment is an added advantage.

    Assistant Principal Research Scientist - Bioinformatician

    Job Summary:

    We are looking for a motivated Bioinformatician to join our research team in advancing the use of next generation systems of high-throughput RNA and DNA sequencing for informing malaria vector control policy. This individual will support research scientists and students by providing data analysis support for the teams in Kenya and Benin as they analyse RNAseq, WGS and other ‘omics data through a virtual high-performance compute (HPserver. The successful candidate should work well in a team environment, exercise great attention to detail, and have keen analytical insight. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a talented and dynamic team working on novel approaches for understanding insecticide resistance in malaria vectors in Africa.

    Essential Requirements:

    • PhD in Bioinformatics and/or Computational sciences OR MSc in Bioinformatics with at least 5 years high level experience (equivalent to a Senior scientist level).
    • Expertise in genomics, population genetics, data science, computational biology
    • Hands on experience with scripting languages such as Linux, Python, R and a strong grounding in biological sciences
    • Familiarity with commonly used tools for variant detection (samtools, bowtie2, BWA, IGV, ANNOVAR, GATand file formats (BED, VCF, FASTQ, BAM, FASTA)
    • Familiarity with commonly used and publicly available bioinformatics databases (e.GenBank, Uniprot, DDBJ, Ensemble, GEO, SRA, ExAC, ESP,ClinVar, VectorBase, KEGG, HGMD, OMIM, PubMed, UCSC)
    • Experience designing bioinformatics experiments and/or providing oversight for the design of'omics/bioinformatics experiments.
    • Experience working with unstructured data sources, (experience with genome assembly)
    • An understanding of genome sequencing technologies and strategies.
    • Having a familiarity with Big Data analysis including data mining, complex data visualization.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
    • Organized, Hardworking and independent – The candidate must be able to plan and implement their workplans within the required timelines

    Desirable Attributes

    • Enthusiastic and strong interest in mosquito genomics, insecticide resistance and vector control

    • In charge of reception and storage of raw sequence data from the sequencing facilities, uploading to the high compute servers
    • Take leadership in setting up virtual classroom discussions; small group discussions; data carpentry workshops, personalized virtual office hours with trainees on the statistical analyses of genomic data
    • Participation in designing, review and update of the vector genomics and bioinformatics training curriculum
    • Leadership in conceptualizing, innovating and development of new bioinformatic pipelines for analysis of genomic data
    • Conduct bioinformatic analysis of raw sequence data to identify molecular markers associated with insecticide resistance in malaria vectors
    • Attend conferences and workshops to disseminate research findings
    • Leadership in drafting of technical reports, manuscripts, and outcomes of the project outputs
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by the principal investigator
