    Programme Specialist and Team Leader: Ending Violence Against Women and Girls

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Design and develop programme strategies in the areas of Ending Violence against Women and Girls

    • Design and formulate programme/ project proposals and initiatives on Ending Violence against Women and Girls
    • Provide technical inputs to programme proposals for Ending Violence against Women and Girls
    • Provide advice on contextualizing/ localizing programme documents related to Ending Violence against Women and Girls in line with Kenya country Office strategies, and knowledge products.
    • Coordinate proper monitoring and reporting for EVAWG in collaboration with programme teams.

    Manage the implementation and management of the Ending Violence against Women and Girls

    • Finalize the annual workplan and budget and manage their implementation.
    • Manage the technical implementation of the programme/project; ensure synergies with other teams.
    • Manage the submission of implementing partner financial and narrative reports.
    • Provide guidance to personnel and partners on Results Based Management tools and performance indicators.
    • Organize Project Steering Committee, project review and/or evaluation meetings, as needed.

    Manage technical assistance and capacity development to project/programme partners.

    • Manage the implementation of technical advice and guidance.
    • Develop and implement technical tools, and initiatives.
    • Build and manage relationships with national partners to support implementation and expansion of the Ending Violence against Women and Girls programme; respond to any potential problems.
    • Identify capacity building needs of partners and lead the coordination of technical assistance, mentoring, training, and capacity development initiatives to partners.

    Manage the monitoring and reporting of the programme/ project.

    • Manage the monitoring of programme/ project implementation and finances using results-based management tools.
    • Oversee field missions and review reports on monitoring missions.
    • Write quarterly reports and donor reports, focusing on results, output, and outcomes.
    • Contribute to office donor and UN Women reports.

    Lead the team and manage financial resources of the Ending Violence against Women and Girls programme.

    • Manage the programme budget and draft financial reports.
    • Supervise the Ending Violence against Women and Girls team; Mentor and coach personnel and conduct performance assessments.
    • Ensure effective Team-Leadership and overall direction and management of the Ending Violence against Women and Girls portfolio and provide cross-cutting advice on coherence with other programmes.
    • Oversee recruitment processes, as necessary.

    Build partnerships and resource mobilization for Ending Violence against Women Girls programme.

    • Develop and implement partnerships and resource mobilization strategies.
    • Finalize relevant documentation on donors and potential opportunities for resource mobilization.
    • Analyze and research information on donors, prepare substantive briefs on possible areas of cooperation, identification of opportunities for cost sharing.

    Contribute to inter-agency coordination on Ending Violence against Women and Girls to achieve coherence and alignment of UN Women programmes with other partners in Kenya.

    • Provide technical support to the Representative and Deputy Representative on inter-agency coordination related activities by attending meetings, events, and participating in groups and committees as needed.
    • Coordinate with other UN agencies, government departments, donors, and NGOs to ensure the projects’ capacity development programme is harmonized and aligned with other in-country efforts.

    Manage advocacy, knowledge building and communication efforts.

    • Develop and review background documents, briefs and presentations related to Ending Violence against Women and Girls
    • Represent UN Women in meetings and policy dialogues on issues related to Ending Violence against Women and Girls as necessary.
    • Develop advocacy strategies and oversee their implementation.
    • Identify best practices and lessons learned to guide programme improvement and strategy planning.
    • Develop knowledge management strategies, products and methodologies on Ending Violence against Women and Girls.

    Education and certification:

    • Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/women's studies, international development, or a related field is required.

    Experience:

    • At least 8 years of progressively responsible work experience at the national or international level in design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development projects;
    • Technical experience in Ending Violence Against Women and Girls
    • Experience coordinating and liaising with government agencies and/or donors is an asset;
    • Experience working in the UN System is an asset;
    • Knowledge of Kenya and the Great Lakes region is an asset.
    • Experience in leading a team is an asset.

    Language Requirements:

    • Fluency in English and Swahili is required;
    • Working knowledge of another official UN language is an asset;
    • Knowledge of any Kenyan local language is an asset.

    Events Coordinator- UNTF Global convention

    Duties and Responsibilities

    In preparation for the event and in coordination with the UNTF (HQ) and ESARO, the consultant will be responsible for, but not limited to:

    • Facilitate the visa request process for the participants in coordination with UN Protocol;
    • Facilitate vendor registration, travel and flight bookings - for participants and speakers (via UNON LTA with Hemingway’s Express);
    • Facilitate Ground Transportation (airport ?hotel);
    • Collect information to facilitate the On-site DSA payments  to participants;
    • Participants’ queries: Act as focal point for questions received from the participants, potential speakers, and other before and during the meeting;
    • Event materials: Assist in the production, organization and transportation of the event materials and collateral;
    • The consultant is expected to periodically meet with UNTF (HQ) and the ESARO Team for event-planning purposes.

    During the event:

    The consultant will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the event. Tasks to be carried out during the week preceding the meeting and throughout the week include but are not limited to:

    • On-site registration: Arrange for registration, conference badge pick-up and building passes;
    • Meeting room preparation: Arrange for preparation of nameplates for invited speakers;
    • Configure meeting rooms (supervise the setup of tables/chairs, corners for presenting documentation, coffee breaks, etc.);
    • Printing event programmes, maps, and other key documentation as requested;
    • Registering participants and distributing relevant materials;
    • Work with the Event Producer to ensure that technology in the meeting rooms is set up as necessary for each session (i.e. PowerPoints are uploaded, microphones are working, etc.);
    • Coordinating with the hotel/venue to ensure  event catering services are available at times indicated;
    • Providing general information to participants as necessary.

    After the event:

    • Assist the UNTF with any other finalization tasks on the day of the event, such as collecting the collateral and materials;
    • Make available a list of participants for each session the day after the event;
    • In coordination with the UNTF Task Team , draft and send thank you letter/notes to the participants;
    • Assist in drafting and distributing the event evaluation survey.
    • The consultant shall support the UNTF in other event-related tasks that may arise during the assignment period.

    Deliverables:

    • Coordination and logistics support (including travel and DSA) in the run-up and post-event support for the 2nd Grantee Convention in Nairobi, Kenya;
    • Liaising with all vendors to ensure and confirming reservations, set-up, and other communications;
    • Arrangement of event registration for all speakers and attendees;
    • Assistance in the production, organization and transportation of the event materials and collateral;Provision of weekly updates on progress made in terms of the scope of work mentioned in the TOR.

    • Knowledge of InDesign, Word, PDF, Excel and WordPress;
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills required;
    • Prior experience with the UN System would be an asset.

    Language:

    • Fluency in English is required (written and verbal);
    • Working knowledge of another UN language (French and Spanish) is considered an asset.
