Job Summary: The System Operator is responsible for ensuring reliable water production, pumping, treatment, and distribution across assigned sites. This role involves operating equipment, maintaining accurate logs, and supporting preventive maintenance activities to guarantee uninterrupted water service. The System Operator reports directly to the Technical Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Water Production & Pump Operation

• Operate boreholes, pumps, Water treatment systems, and solar systems.
• Record pumping hours, flows, and pressures.

Treatment & Water Quality Support

• Monitor chlorine dosing, tank hygiene, and system cleanliness.
• Support water quality sampling.

System Monitoring & Maintenance

• Inspect equipment and report faults immediately.
• Perform minor maintenance and repair as directed by the Technical Officer.
• Support preventive maintenance and emergency repairs.

Distribution Support

• Report leaks, bursts, and illegal connections.
• Assist in meter inspections and valve operations.

Reporting

• Maintain daily logs and submit operational data.

Qualifications

Job Summary: The Engineering Intern will report to the Technical Officer and will work closely with Water Mission Kenya's Senior Engineer to support engineering fieldwork, design, and BOQ preparation for water supply extensions to households and institutions, as well as operation and maintenance activities. Responsibilities will include receiving customer applications, conducting field assessments (using the mWater App), working with the Senior Engineer to input data into the hydraulic model to confirm connection feasibility, determining material requirements, and following up with the technical team to ensure satisfactory connection completion — all while upholding Water Mission's QA/QC standards and values. This role will be based in Makindu, Kenya, with regular site visits to Kambu, Muthingini, Sultan Hamud, Mutyambua, Kinyongo, Kwa Kavisi, and other areas. This is an unpaid, non-renewable internship for a period of one (1) year. Field expenses will be covered by Water Mission Waterworks LTD.

• Conduct fieldwork assessment for customer applications using mWater App to collect GPS and other data in line with established engineering principles and standards.
• Work with WMK Senior Engineer to simulate the collected data on the hydraulic model to determine the possibility of serving the customer from the existing water supply system and make necessary recommendations.
• Prepare schedule of material and cost estimates for the customer in consultation with the WMK Senior Engineer.
• Once the customer pays for the materials, work with Senior Engineer and Technical Officer to ensure the customer is satisfactorily connected.
• After Connection, work with the Senior Engineer to update ‘as built drawings’ and with Customer service to activate customer meter.
• Any other role as may be assigned.

• Demonstrated skills with office computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and drafting and modeling software (AutoCAD, EPANET, PowerCADD, SolidWorks, ProE).

Job Summary: The Community Development Intern will report to the Managing Director and will work closely with the Technical Officer, Customer Service Officer, and Water Mission Kenya's Community Development Officer to identify and assess potential customers for Water Mission Waterworks and potential communities for pipeline extensions. Responsibilities will include coordinating with Safe Water Committees and WMK's Community Development Officer to engage community members on water supply matters, working closely with technical teams to ensure community development aspects are properly addressed in project implementation, coordinating stakeholder engagement activities, and performing any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor. This role will be based in Makindu, Kenya, with regular site visits to Kambu, Muthingini, Sultan Hamud, Mutyambua, Kinyongo, Kwa Kavisi, and other areas. • Assist the Customer Service Officer with processing and following up on household water connection applications.
• Participate in field assessments for new connections and routine monitoring visits.
• Work with Safe Water Committees and the Community Development Officer to identify expansion opportunities and attend related meetings/trainings.
• Support stakeholder engagement with government officials, community leaders, and water vendors to address service delivery challenges.
• Document and follow up on community concerns, complaints, and agreed action items; provide progress updates.
• Prepare meeting minutes, field reports, and other project documentation.
• Any other role as may be assigned.
