    Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic

    Duties

    • The mechanic oversees the maintenance and repair of USG vehicles at post, including those operated by the Motor Pool and other USG agencies. Responsibilities include conducting preventative mechanical and electrical maintenance, performing routine services such as oil changes, brake and suspension work, tire rotations, and electrical repairs, and recommending outsourcing for complex repairs. The Mechanic ensures outsourced work meets contract specifications and quality standards. Additionally, they service the armored vehicle fleet in line with annual Armored Vehicle Maintenance guidance. The position manages DriveCam components, including installation, removal, and circuit maintenance to prevent battery drain. This role is critical to ensuring the safety, reliability, and operational readiness of the USG vehicle fleet at Post.

    Vehicle Servicing and Inspection 60%

    • Services USG vehicles, ensuring that all required/recommended preventative/scheduled maintenance is accomplished in a timely manner.
    • Carries out service on vehicles, including oil change, brakes and suspensions work, and minor electrical work.
    • Carries out vehicle tire rotations, tire changes, and wheel balancing.
    • Services armored vehicle fleet following the Annual Armored Vehicle Maintenance Guidance.
    • Inspects vehicles to determine need for servicing, repair, parts replacement, and corrections to meet safety requirements.
    • Ensures that each vehicle is safe to operate. May perform the above work inspection for any other agency subscribing to ICASS maintenance management services.
    • Inspects vehicle certificates/licenses and reports expired ones for action.
    • Install DriveCam components including the Event Recording Devices, brackets and GPSs onto all mission vehicles including vehicles belonging to KEMRI (Kisumu and Nairobi), CDC, and Peace Corps.
    • Dismantles as needed and maintains them when they are faulty and ensures they don’t drain the vehicle batteries.

    Procurement and Contract Services 20%

    • Makes recommendations to the Supervisors on repair work that requires outsourcing.
    • Inspects such outsourced work, both while in progress and on completion to ensure high quality parts are being used, and that high quality work is being achieved, in line with contract/work order.
    • Performs regular visits to dealers/vendors concerned with vehicle maintenance.

    Reporting 20%

    • Maintains a file for each vehicle and provides necessary reports whenever requested.
    • Keeps and updates individual vehicle records/files.
    • Enters appropriate record data into the electronic systems/ILMS.
    • Ensures appropriate parts stock is maintained by warehouse, for smooth and timely servicing, through regular monitoring/feedback.

    Qualifications and Evaluations

    Requirements:

    All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a:

    • security certificate; or Public Trust security clearance. Education Requirements:
    • Completion secondary school required.Additionally, completion of a minimum 3 years of Automotive Technical Training or apprenticeship, acquiring Automotive Technician Craft 3 certificate or equivalent also required.  Evaluations:

    A/V Engineering and Production Coordinator

    Duties

    • The AV Engineering & Production Coordinator is responsible for the technical management of Mission’s audiovisual (AV) and multimedia programs for ICASS subscribers. The incumbent independently plans, produces, and executes complex live, hybrid, and virtual events while ensuring seamless technical operation of AV systems. This includes administering, setting up, operating, and maintaining equipment such as cameras, microphones, speakers, sound mixers, lighting, projectors, interactive whiteboards, digital signage, and IPTV systems.

    Multimedia Management and Technical Support 40%

    • Manage and maintain the Mission’s multimedia, TV and IPTV systems, ensuring reliable operation and compliance with Department standards.
    • Administer internal digital signage, multimedia, TV, and IPTV systems, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and supporting new installations or channels for internal communications, while maintaining audiovisual infrastructure documentation such as system layouts, connectivity maps, and technical diagrams to support ongoing maintenance and system upgrades.
    • Perform installation, configuration, commissioning, and complex integration of AV systems, including conference rooms, DVC setups, IPTV components, cabling, equipment, and related audiovisual/network infrastructure.
    • Provides technical expertise to recommend AV equipment procurement, lifecycle management, and system upgrades. Evaluates vendor solutions, defines technical requirements, and advises DT management on appropriate technologies based on operational needs, system compatibility, and performance, including budget requirements to support strategic and long-term planning.

    Internal Communications and Digital Media Production 25%

    • Oversee the creation and delivery of visual and multimedia content for engagement with internal Embassy audiences through internal channels such as digital signage, IPTV systems, and internal newsletters.
    • Visual and multimedia content includes videos, digital signage channels, podcasts supporting ICASS services, training materials for internal systems, and multimedia content for internal events such as town halls and awards ceremonies.

    Event Support and Coordination 15%

    • Provide advanced AV technical support and consultation for internal events, encompassing both routine AV setup and troubleshooting functions as well as complex event coordination for town halls, meetings, webinars, conference calls, community gatherings, and awards ceremonies.
    • Oversee end-to-end AV requirements, including pre-event planning, system testing, scheduling, and live event execution, ensuring reliable performance and seamless support across multiple simultaneous events.
    • Support virtual and hybrid meeting environments using DOS-approved platforms, including configuration, user support, and facilitation of effective virtual collaboration.

    Training, Knowledge Management and Cybersecurity 10%

    • Develop professional skills and stay abreast of new technology developments through independent study and formal training. Cross train backup on core portfolio functions and become competent in the core responsibilities of own backup portfolio. Coordinate leave schedule to ensure continuity of operations during scheduled and unscheduled absences.
    • Apply standards in developing and documenting solutions that support customer productivity. Following Mission knowledge management practices, document problems and corrective actions taken for inclusion in the problem resolution database. Review, validate, and standardize knowledgebase articles. Maintain documentation on workstation and network resources including user information, server and workstation configurations, network cabling, and trouble logs.

    Projects and Administrative Support 10%

    • Manage or participate in projects by executing the various tasks and duties under the guidance of DT’s assigned project managers for various projects.
    • Provide and manage budget estimates, progress updates, timelines, resources, and documentation for projects.
    • Prioritize and coordinate project management activities across all missions and track all milestones.
    • Assist other teams within Diplomatic Technology at all mission locations to enable use of technology as a strategic diplomatic instrument. Listen to customer business needs and evaluate solutions that would improve their processes. Identify opportunities for using technology to improve efficiency, competitiveness, and innovation within the Mission.
