    Dairy Herd Health Program Development & Training (Re-advertisement)

    Objectives of the Assignment:    

    • The objectives of the assignment are:  
    • To develop a training program schedule and evaluation tools
    • To provide customized training to Dairy Farm Assistants (DFAs), staff, and farmers on implementing the herd health management program.    
    • To develop a final report with recommendations for improved herd health management as well as additional training and support needed for the cooperative.    

    Tasks to be Performed:    

    • Pre-Assignment
    • Review information about the cooperative
    • Hold calls with the F2F team and the producer organization to discuss assignment objectives and plan.
    • Familiarize and review the herd health management program curriculum developed in Phase 1
    • Develop outline and materials for training on herd health.
    • During Assignment
    • An Orientation meeting with F2F
    • Hold an introductory meeting with PO to finalize the workplan, assignment schedule, and training overview.
    • Provide customized training to Dairy Farm Assistants, staff, and farmers on herd health management.
    • Conduct training evaluation
    • Work on the trip and evaluation report
    • Hold debriefing with the host/F2F and USAID
    • Draft and submit the final report.
    • End of Assignment Report and Other Deliverables Required    
    • Herd health management program   
    • Herd health program training manual and materials  
    • A final trip report detailing work completed throughout the assignment as well as recommendations for the host organization.  
    • A PowerPoint presentation for sharing with F2F, the host, and USAID.  

    The expertise of Volunteer Experts Requested:

    • A master's or doctoral degree in veterinary science, animal science, dairy science, or a closely related area
    • At least 10 years of experience working with dairy cattle.
    • A good understanding of animal health and bovine behavior
    • Hands-on experience in animal health management
    • Experience working in Kenya and/or the region is a plus.  
    • Strong leadership and communication skills and capacity to plan strategically and flexibly.   
    • Experience delivering group training. 
    • Sufficiently physically fit, with appropriate medical clearance.   
    • Writing Skills: reporting requires good computer skills including, but not limited to, working, and generating reports with MS Word. Experience with PowerPoint presentations is desirable.   
    • Good writing and analytical skills, interpersonal communication, and presentation skills (adult education skills), ability and desire to teach in both classroom and field settings

    • Review available literature on herd health management challenges faced by farmers as well as the dairy sector in Kenya.
    • Develop outline and materials for herd health training curriculum
    • During Assignment
    • Orientation meeting with F2F
    • Hold an introductory meeting with the producer organization (PO) to finalize the workplan, assignment schedule, and training overview.
    • Conduct a rapid capacity assessment through farm visits and key informant interviews to assess heard health management challenges experienced by the farmers
    • Develop a draft herd health training curriculum
    • Test and revise the training curriculum
    • Develop and submit trip report
    • Hold debriefing with the host organization/USAID.
    • Hold debriefing with the F2F team.
    • Draft and submit the final report.

    End of Assignment Report and Other Deliverables Required:

    • Herd health management needs assessment report
    • Herd health management program training manual and materials 
    • A final trip report detailing work completed throughout the assignment as well as recommendations for the host organization.
    • A PowerPoint presentation for sharing with F2F, the host, and USAID.
