    Data Science Fellowship

    Summary of Role:
    Esoko is changing how businesses manage smallholder farmers, suppliers and clients through the effective use of mobile/web innovations. The Data Science Fellow will be responsible for analysing the data on our m-commerce and survey platforms to help Esoko understand its current data better and determine any business opportunities based on it. The successful candidate will work across the company to understand, organize and analyse our existing data, as well as design and implement Esoko’s data strategy going forward.

    We are looking for someone who proactively searches for and makes value out of data by leveraging it for decision-making purposes.

    Esoko is an award-winning tech company that links smallholder farmers to markets across Africa. We do this through simple but powerful mobile- and web-based solutions that enable businesses and farmers communicate and transact more effectively. We are currently expanding into mobile commerce in the agriculture sector, which will enable us to generate large volumes of data.

    About the Role:

    • Develop and implement a data strategy for the company that results in valuable insights that can drive product development/enhancement and profits
    • Work with team members from across all business functions to identify actionable, high-impact insights, helping us to improve our m-commerce and survey solutions
    • Research, design, implement and validate algorithms to analyze m-commerce and survey data and achieve targeted outcomes
    • Provide expertise on data-driven analysis and drive the adoption of advanced analytics and data science across the entire breadth of our organization
    • Enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for Esoko to effectively use and monetize its data
    • Process, clean, and verify the integrity of current (and future) data used for analysis

    Compensation:
    Esoko provides its Fellows with a generous monthly stipend, accommodation and health care. We will also cover the cost of round-trip airfare from your home country

    Required Skills or Experience

    • Degree from a top university in data science, data analytics, applied statistics, or a related quantitative discipline. A master’s degree in a relevant field is a plus.
    • Two years of experience in data science in a business environment
    • Ability and desire to work with a start-up in implementing its first data strategy
    • Deep understanding of and ability to communicate with lay people about machine learning techniques and algorithms
    • Experience with common data science tool kits
    • Ability to understand software engineering techniques
    • Experience with data visualization tools
    • Strong applied statistics skills
    • Highly detail-oriented
    • Highly quantitative – you are a data-driven decision maker
    • Intellectually curious and an original thinker
    • Process driven – the ends don’t always justify the means for you
    • Passionate about working in a business with strong social impact

    Director of M-Commerce Solutions

    Director of M-Commerce Solutions Job Responsibilities

     

    • Work with mobile operators, agribusinesses and other partners in multiple countries to pilot a proprietary solution that combines information and digital financial services in the agric sector
    • Establish key performance indicators as well as the process to collect and analyze data against them
    • Manage the pilot according to the work plan and on or below budget
    • Document successes and failures and course correct as needed
    • Ensure compliance with investor requirements
    • If successful, plan and execute the scale-up of the solution in those markets
    • Start to position Esoko as a thought leader in the m-commerce space

     

    Qualifications for the Director of M-Commerce Solutions Job

     

    • At least 7-10 years of experience managing complex projects in the design, development and deployment of mobile applications, especially digital financial services and/or m-commerce
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in relevant field (e.g. Business, Marketing) from top university required
    • Creative and original thinker – you are not afraid to chart the course in murky waters
    • Highly process driven but not a slave to a business plan
    • Quantitative – you are a data-driven decision maker
    • Your EQ is as high as your IQ
    • Passionate about working in a business with strong social impact and about innovative technology
    • Able to articulate client needs and help translate them into product design
    • Have a consultative approach to problem solving for clients

    Business Development Manager

    Business Development Manager Job Core Responsibilities

     

    • Define and implement Kenya’s sales strategy and plan
    • Develop and execute a marketing strategy and plan
    • Achieve sales targets and key performance indicators
    • Identify and sell the company’s key products and services

    • Background in agriculture (agri-business preferable)
    • Be creative and an out-of-the-box thinker
    • Be process driven: value KPIs, CRM, targets, reporting
    • Want to work in a business with strong social impact
    • Want to work in innovative technology company
    • Be able to articulate client needs into product enhancements
    • Have a consultative approach to problem solving for clients
