The Kenya National Youth Summit (KNYS) organized by key partnership of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), Ongoza, Strathmore Business School (SBS) and the Nation Media Group annually brings together youth from all 47 counties in Kenya. The summit seeks to
amplify youth voices to provide strategies that will contribute to peace before, during, and after the 2017 elections.
KNYS 2016 was an interactive convention, providing youth participants a platform to discuss county-specific challenges to employment, peaceful elections and security. The delegates proposed strategic recommendations for the public, private, and civil sectors to pursue in 2016 and 2017. They recommended solutions specific to their counties and developed yearlong community action projects to be implemented within their counties. By the end of the year, the organizing partnership
intends to publish these into a county-based policy report to be availed as a national resource document for stakeholders to use in their unemployment, peace and security initiatives throughout Kenya.
Ongoza is a young, dynamic organization working to empower youth as catalysts for social change through economic empowerment and community leadership. We identify groups of vulnerable young women and men with an existing micro-enterprise and social mission and help them scale up to larger social enterprises. Business growth provides youth with sustainable livelihoods to reverse incentives for violence, while increased community engagement spreads the benefit outwards.
