    Junior WASH Consultant

    Objectives and Scope of assignment

    SNV is recruiting a Junior WaSH consultant who will support PEWAK’s implementation towards realizing its objective to improve performance of water utilities through benchmarking, peer learning and innovative financing. The Junior Consultant will support the PEWAK Advisor to select and implement appropriate consumer engagement approaches therefore contributing to the management of non-revenue water and ensuring improved downward accountability. The Junior Consultant shall work with and under the supervision of the project advisor. He/she shall be involved in facilitating task group sessions and documentation of best practices emerging from water utilities in addressing key challenges faced by peer WSPs. The task within the assignments includes;

    • Support WSPs in development and review of SMART performance improvement plans (PIPs)
    • Participate in regular WSP peer learning sessions
    • Support WSPs to establish communication committees and capacity build committee members
    • Support WPSs in developing communication policies and plans
    • Review utility - consumer dialogue mechanisms and follow-up on implementation developed service levels roadmaps
    • Document progress results, achievements and lessons for sharing through essays, journals and reports (Knowledge Management)
    • Capacity build beneficiary WSPs on establishment of performance data collection tools/systems, analysis and interpretation of results.
    • And other related roles as assigned by the Project Manager

    Qualifications

    • University degree in Development Studies / Social Sciences / Business Studies or other related courses.
    • Kenyan Water Sector experience (2 years) and demonstrate knowledge of water sector in Kenya; a Master’s Degree is an added advantage
    • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in implementation of consumer engagement, corporategovernance and NRW management guidelines in water sector.
    • Experience working with WSPs, Civil Society with specialization in Water services delivery.
    • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and communication skills
    • Experience in Knowledge management
    • Ability and willingness to travel regularly and on short notice
    • Ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, organisations and cultures across all levels.

    Senior Advisor in Agriculture: Livestock Intensification Project

    The position will be based in Nairobi-Kenya; with intensive field engagement in the South-West Mau-Region

    Responsibilities

    To achieve this, the advisor will supervise and coordinate a team of advisors, consultants/LCBs and partners in the livestock component of the ISLA project. Below are indicative activities expected of this position:

    • Stakeholder Mapping and Selection; selection of model farmers, farmers, input suppliers, product up-takers and other service providers based agreed criteria
    • Designing livestock intensification models fitting to the ecosystem
    • Steering identification, selection and establishment of model farms;
    • Training of farmers on livestock intensification of models
    • Linking farmers to (new) markets
    • Support establishment/strengthening farmer aggregation and marketing enterprises
    • Support capacity development of training & extension staff of identified dairy groups/societies.
    • Develop market linkages in the livestock sector;considering farmer groups, cooperatives, up-takers and other players
    • Facilitating linkages with private input suppliers and service providers (including bio-digester providers);
    • Facilitating farmer learning and knowledge development through field days and exchange visits;
    • Offering support to farmers and dairy society’s with Feed & Fodder training programs and design and implementation of demonstrations for fodder establishment & preservation;
    • Developing a customized curriculum for the training of farmers based on the FFS approach to include good livestock production practices and environmental conservation.
    • Supporting KFS and CFA in planning forest grazing and fodder extraction
    • Engaging in policy dialogue on livestock in the forest in multi-stakeholder setting

    Qualifications

    Candidate Profile

    • Degree in agribusiness, agriculture economics or agriculture,
    • At least 8-10 years of practical experience in agriculture project management, with market facilitation and business development
    • At least 5 years of project implementation and oversight for dairy or livestock
    • Prior experience of climate smart agriculture approaches such as landscape approaches or conservation agriculture in crop and livestock production
    • Exposure to project development and management at sector/systemic level, including the management of projects
    • Governance know how and ability to manage multi-stakeholder engagement
    • Knowledge and experience on aspects of agricultural supply chains in the Kenya context
    • Excellent relationship management skills to manage the consortium
    • Proven ability in M&E and a knowledge development agenda
    • Good networks in the Kenya agriculture sector is an advantage

    Other Requirements

    • Management, training and coaching experience and skills
    • Extensive work experience in a multicultural environment
    • Good communication skills in English
    • Good computer skills
    • Willingness to travel to project regions in Kenya
