    ICT/Mathematics Instructor

    Job Description

    The position is responsible for provision of quality lessons offering and imparting appropriate skills through practical and theory teaching methods in line with ICT and other Support subjects course upholding BOH values and standards for optimum development of students.

    Grade: TBA
    Reports to: Principal Vocational Training College
    Location: BoH Centre – Ongata Rongai

    Key Responsibilities Of ICT/Mathematics Instructor

    • Assist the VTC principal in outlining tools and other requirements for effective teaching and carry out needs assessment.
    • Provide technical assistance to all college students in the use of ICT systems: generally, give guidance on the correct use of the equipment.
    • Ensure that ICT networks are operating efficiently on day-to-day basis and are available to students, and appropriate repairs are undertaken in a timely manner.
    • Monitor the ICT computer lab to ensure it is kept secure and reliable including back-up procedures. Prepare and use work schemes and lesson plans in line with the proved examining body curriculum in delivering teaching and instructing students.
    • Prepare materials to facilitate creative learning and complete demonstrations as outlined in curriculum.
      Set assignments regularly and mark them promptly, and follow –up with students’ suggestions for further appropriate improvements in learning.
    • Observe and evaluate individual student’s performance and behavior.
    • Supervise and control use of material and resources.
    • Ensure that students understand and follow the college rules and regulations in order to maintain high level of discipline. Provide guidance and counseling to students to nurture development including spiritual care and make referrals where considered necessary.
    • Carry out any other duties and tasks assigned by the management from time to time.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Education(Mathematics/ICT)
    • Have relevant qualifications in teaching from reputable institution

    Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required

    • Software and hardware skills pertaining to web applications are required
    • Knowledge in IT design and programming
    • Knowledge in networking, internet, license administration
    • Determined personality with initiative, perseverance
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills
    • Demonstrates high regards for accuracy and reliability
    • Able to work independently and effectively under pressure.

    Electronics Instructor

    The position is responsible for provision of quality lessons offering and imparting appropriate skills through practical and theory teaching methods in line with Electrical Installation curriculum upholding BOH values and standards for optimum development of students.

    Electrical And Electronics Instructor Responsibilities

    • Assist the VTC principal in outlining tools and other requirements for effective teaching and carry out needs assessment.
    • Brainstorm and implement effective methods of Marketing the course to potential students
    • Teach according to the timetable ensuring the lessons are planned, ordered and effective.
    • Ensure that Electricity is operating efficiently on day-to-day basis and are, and appropriate repairs are undertaken in a timely manner.
    • Prepare and use work schemes and lesson plans in line with the proved examining body curriculum in delivering teaching and instructing students.
    • Prepare materials to facilitate creative learning and complete demonstrations as outlined in curriculum.
    • Set assignments regularly and mark them promptly, and follow –up with students’ suggestions for further appropriate improvements in learning.
    • Observe and evaluate individual student’s performance and behavior.

    Qualifications

    • At least a Diploma in Education Technology in Electrical and Electronics
    • Have ability to work and relate well with people from diverse backgrounds, and handles people in a firm but highly respectful manner.
    • Must be a person of unquestionable integrity.
    • Must be a well-organized individual who is able to coordinate tasks well and complies with given instructions.
    • Sufficient knowledge of rules and regulations of road transport of the country.
    • At least five (5) years’ relevant work experience in a technical college/university

    Principal

    The position is responsible for the overall management of the Vocational Skills Training Centre; ensuring that vocational skills training is carried out in line with established policies, and approved curriculum and standards; nurturing and maintaining highly motivated and committed staff team; and ensuring retention of enrolled students.

    Reports to Head of education and Training

    Location: BoH – Ongata Rongai

    Principal Job Key Responsibilities

    1.Business Management

    • Coordinate the development and periodic review of creative and appropriate curriculum for vocational skills training.
    • Propose and advice on the continuing development of the College mission in the context of a changing external environment carry out research for growth and advancement of the college
    • Oversee the implementation of effective procedures, rules, regulations which are consistent with BoH’s policies and procedures
    • Undertake vocational skills training activities within approved budgets.
    • Create effective linkages with the industry for attachment and absorption of trainees
    • Ensure prudent management and use resources allocated for implementation of Vocational Skills Training activities.
    • Ensure that Vocational Skills Training Centre maintain established high standards, embrace a culture of excellence, and offer quality courses.
    • Ensure effective linkage between the Vocational Skills Training Centre and other BoH Departments.
    • Create effective linkages with the industry for attachment and absorption of trainees.
    • Generate and put in practice innovative ideas to market the courses offered
    • Coordinate the recruitment of new students in liaison with the Head of Education Department to ensure set targets are met.
    • Oversee the implementation of effective procedures, rules, regulations which are consistent with BoH’s policies and procedures.
    • Addressing disciplinary issues of the students.

    Leadership

    • Provide overall guidance and direction on vocational skills training activities.
    • Coordinate the preparation and regular review of curriculum for the various vocational skills training areas.
    • Supervise the process of internal examination of students at the Academy and VTC
    • Provide mentoring and coaching to the trainers and other persons who may get attachment in the Academy and Vocational Skills Training Centre.
    • Ensure that College processes and procedures keep abreast of new regulatory requirements
    • Ensure that instructors and students participate in all other related BoH activities.
    • Prepare and agree with tutors on examinations for vocational courses to keep in line with government requirements for the course.
    • Supervise all staff by ensuring all staff keep to the working hours
    • Holding meetings with all teachings staff as is required necessary
    • Monitor the lecture lessons including preparation of time-tables, development of lesson plans by tutors, delivery processes and connected activities.
    • Responsible for students disciplinary matters-This may require referring some students for counseling service
    • Administer Academic Programs- Assign Teaching loads, Prepare timetables for different courses check course outlines and schemes of work and ensure that deadlines are set/met for students registration with professional bodies
    • Ensure that timely registration of qualified students for the examinations.
    • Ensure compliance with policies, BoH values and principles by instructors, students under training and their parents/guardians.
    • Maintain an atmosphere of trust and engagement of students and staff, to develop the understanding and pursuit of a Learning Community
    • Maintain a clear understanding of the external environment for Technical College in order to provide authoritative advice to management and staff in the best interests of the students, particularly in the light of regulatory changes
    • Ensure that instructors and students participate in all other related BoH activities.
    • Prepare and agree with tutors on examinations for vocational courses to keep in line with government requirements for the course.
    • Supervise the process of internal examination of students and attachment activities in liaison with the Head of Education.
    • Ensure that trainees are mentored to acquire skills in developing items for sale, and are facilitated to meet production deadlines and other relevant targets.

    Partnership

    • Maintain and develop strong relationships with various stakeholders.
    • Ensure that young people are provided with a safe environment for learning and that appropriate arrangements are in place to safeguard the vulnerable by working closely with other agencies
    • Maintain and build links with wider partners in the local, regional and national context, particularly with local authorities in which college students, national representative organizations and government bodies.
    • Ensure that the College contributes to the well-being of the local area.

    Maintenance of Equipment

    • Ensure safe custody, security, and controls of machines, equipment and materials for vocational skills training.
    • Ensure that machines and equipment for vocational training are kept in serviceable condition.
    • Manage College operations according to plans and policies approved by Beacon of Hope
    • Ensure compliance with safety and health policies and procedures in the workshops at all times.

    Management within Regulatory Framework

    • Advise on, and facilitate the business of Beacon of Hope, its Committees, and governance Advisory Board.
    • Manage college operations according to plans and policies approved by Beacon of Hope and within the limits of the Principal’s delegated authority, in the best interest of the students.
    • Ensure that College activities are compliant with the provisions of Ministry of Education regulations. Ensure that College activities are carried out within the law and provisions of external regulators

    Reporting

    • Ensure submission of quality and timely delivery of reports in the agreed formats.
    • Maintain and keep up to date and accurate records and reports of activities and beneficiaries according to BoH’s M&E and reporting requirements.
    • Ensure quality and integrity of data and information provided for management decision making processes.
    • Collect and analyze data and information that support monitoring and evaluation of vocational skills training
      Other duties and responsibilities
    • Participate in other programs and activities organized by BoH such as medical camps, sports extravaganzas etc.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time by the management.

    Skills/Qualifications

    • Bachelor degree in Business/Hospitality/Technology
    • Posses a Higher Diploma or Advanced Certificate in apprenticeship or craftsmanship.
    • Must be diligent, honest and responsible with strong leadership skills
    • Demonstrate report writing and communication skills with good spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
    • Ability to coordinate production processes and work with close deadlines
    • Ability to translate designs and specifications into quality marketable products.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision
    • At least 10 years relevant working experience in a vocational training institute.
    • Must have served as a Deputy Principal or Academic Registrar
