    IFC/Pool Attendant

    Job description

    Key Responsibilities

    At the moment we're looking for a Pool Attendant to join our friendly and professional team at InterContinental Nairobi. As a Pool Attendant, you will be responsible for the following duties & responsibilities:

    • Check pool area for hazards by completing the pool safety checklist
    • Report, document, and remedy all unsafe situations found
    • Pick up and dispose of all trash from the pool deck
    • Straighten all deck furniture, as needed
    • Keep all pool storage areas neat and clean
    • Maintain accurate record of hours worked
    • Return any lost and found equipment to the front desk area and record it in the lost and found book
    • Perform all daily, weekly/monthly pool maintenance tasks as detailed on the maintenance check list
    • Maintain awareness of pool users and their actions
    • If needed, politely inform members of pool rules and policies
    • Perform other tasks related to the aquatic program in various capacities such as typing, posting promotional material, maintenance, and other duties as assigned

    In this position under the general guidelines and supervision of the Security Manager and within the established InterContinental Hotels Group and local hotel policies and procedures will be responsible for maintaining all aspects of security and regularity within the hotel premises.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Direct and supervise security guards.
    • Enforces control of hotel properties in all departments to ensure no hotel property is stolen.
    • Co-ordinate with outside police agencies in the investigations and handling of crimes, accidents etc. involving the hotel employees and guests.
    • Prepare daily incident reports and other inter-office memos.
    • Detect and prevent crime in the hotel.
    • Ensure protection of life and property of Hotel employees and guests.
    • Ensure all allegations of crime and other incidents are promptly investigated, recorded and recommendations made to the management between one and three days.
    • Liaise with Department Heads to ensure hotel staff is adhering to established security procedures.
    • Enforces hotel key controls policy.
    • Is responsible for found property deposited with the Security for safekeeping.
    • Ensures that all guards are briefed and inspected to ensure proper grooming before reporting on duty.
    • Ensures and enforces security controls i.e. searching employees, when leaving and during the course of duty during investigations.
    • Ensures compliance with fire, safety and emergency procedures.
    • Ensures safety of guests within the hotel premises and advices them on their safety while outside the hotel.
    • Inspects on a regular basis the security protective installations i.e. alarm systems, floor emergency exits etc.
    • Ensures hotel guests are not harassed by undesirable persons within the hotel and its immediate surroundings.
    • Maintains order at the front and back of the hotel.
    • Maintains effect employee relations.
    • Ensures that property taken out for Outside Catering is counted and certified by both Banquet and Stewarding and is returned. Investigates discrepancies.
    • Ensures that visitors are well screened before being issued with visitors’ cards and that cards are returned at the time visitor leaves. Scrutinizes the visitor before issuing and ensures that they are returned at the time visitor leaves.
    • Controls and regulates motor traffic both at the front and back of the house.
    • Maintains order at the Lobby by ensuring that no illegal business takes place and ensures that guests are afforded comfort.
    • Reports to the Security Manager immediately of any customer complaints.
    • Performs any other related duties or projects as requested by management.
    • Works closely and communicates frequently with Human Resources to provide for the free flow of pertinent information between the two departments
    • Comply with the company corporate code of conduct at all times.
    • Familiarize yourself with the company vision and values which link to our model of desired behaviors that we expect all employees to display.
    • Perform other tasks at the level of the role as directed by your line manager in pursuit of the achievement of business goals.
    • Have the desire and ability to improve your knowledge and abilities through on-going training.
    • Ability to work as part of a diverse team with colleagues from different viewpoints, cultures and countries.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Criminology or a related degree.
    • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Security Officer.
    • Good Interpersonal skills
    • Excellent Report writing skills
    • Knowledge of security procedures.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication.
    • Skill in observing situations and decision making.
    • Ability to deal courteously with guests and colleagues.

    You Will Ideally

    • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with all Front Office colleagues and other departments such as Housekeeping, Room Service,
    • Engineering, Sales, etc. to ensure a smooth and efficient operation.
    • To be completely familiar and adhere with the hotel procedures, policies and Service Standards related to guest service.

    Qualifications

    • Degree or Diploma in Hotel Management
    • Passion, commitment, high drive, excellent team player and positive attitude
    • Excellent communication skills, written and oral with proficiency in English
    • Ability to work irregulars hours, late evenings and weekends when appropriate
    • Computer literate - Opera, Word and Excel
    • Minimum 2 year hotel experience in the same position
