    Job Summary HIAS seeks to recruit Office Assistants who will ensure high standard of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the premises.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities

    • Develop routines to ensure all common areas of the safe house are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness.
    • Assist in the general cleanliness of the offices
    • Ensuring the availability of cleaning supplies in all sanitary places
    • Use cleaning materials and consumables economically
    • Disinfect drains and dustbins regularly
    • Empty general waste refuse bins and make sure all refuse is disposed off promptly and using proper disposal methods.

    Temporary Computer Teacher

    Job Description

    • Under the direct supervision of the Centre Manager, the incumbent will carry out the following functions:
    • Offer basic education to refugees: focusing on basic literacy in computer skills.
    • Provide computer training using a curriculum jointly developed by the Centre Manager, the Social Worker and the incumbent with modules on the approved computer skills programs suitable for adults.
    • Determine beneficiaries’ progress and work on an exit strategy that allows them to earn a livelihood (in case of reintegration) and to provide for themselves and their dependants/significant others.
    • In liaison with other departments; assist in the organization and facilitation of capacity building activities for beneficiaries e.g. workshops, trainings or information dissemination
    • Prepare periodic and progress reports on the above mentioned training services
    • Attend periodic staff meetings

    Requirements Education

    • Completion of a college diploma in education Experience
    • Computer Training Skills and competencies
    • Computer literacy a must: excellent working knowledge with WORD, ACCESS and EXCEL, INTERNET, POWERPOINT, etc
    • Good knowledge of human rights doctrine and working experience with refugees and displaced persons;
    • Experience in community-based training and adult training;
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

    Driver/Dispatch Officer

    Job Summary

HIAS operation in Kenya was established in 2002 with the mission to serve the most vulnerable refugees through protection, resilience, economic inclusion and provision of durable solutions.

    HIAS seeks to recruit a Driver/Dispatch Officer who will provide effective transport facilitation to staff and clients in order to attain the objectives of the organization.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities

    • Support the Eastleigh Office Staff on official transport and dispatch duties to required destinations when requested
    • Facilitate transport of Kayole office Field Operations Staff when carrying out home visits and outreach activities
    • Maintain high standard of service to both internal and external guests.
    • Ensure punctuality and safe transport
    • Observing the road and traffic laws and regulations of the Country.
    • Ensure that safe driving practices are adhered to including local driving codes and internally agreed standards.
    • Ensure vehicle is kept clean, tidy and in good working condition at all times
    • Ensure vehicle is kept secure at all times
    • Ensure vehicle is given regular/day-to-day maintenance checks: check oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres, etc.
    • Ensure vehicle repairs are carried out properly by official manufacturers specifications
    • Arrange for other repairs, prepare vehicle spare parts inventory
    • Prepare and submit vehicle monitoring report, including records of vehicle operations, maintenance, expenses, mileage as required
    • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes as required.
    • Provide assistance to the Operations Manager and other office staff in the time working at the office, in tasks including but not limited to photocopying and filing.
    • Handling mail, delivering goods and correspondences, carrying parcels, packages, and delivery and collection of official documents as required

    Job Specifications

    • Minimum of Secondary school education is preferred with a Minimum of Grade C.
    • Must have a clean and valid driving license of classes B, C, and E
    • Should have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in driving 4WD vehicles, Nissan Vans and school bus.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Flexibility and ability to stand in for other drivers when required to do so is necessary.
    • Good inter-personal, communication (English and Kiswahili-written and spoken) a must.
    • Must have good knowledge of Nairobi and its environs
    • Basic mechanical knowledge is an advantage

    Community Outreach Worker-Refugee

    Reporting to: Counselling Psychologist Country: Kenya

    Main Duties & Responsibilities

    • Assist in the identification of vulnerable refugees in the community in need of targeted assistance and other interventions offered by HIAS including the provision of direct assistance to refugees in the community Assist with the translation for refugees in the community during assessments, home visits, counseling sessions and other activities as may be required.
    • Assist in internal referrals for appropriate intervention for vulnerable refugees in the community
    • Conduct external referrals of refugees to the appropriate partners for services beyond the scope of HIAS. Attend UNHCR meetings as community leaders and relay information to the larger refugee community.
    • Monitor incidences the community such as police arrests, harassments and other matters of concern within the community and report to HIAS and other relevant partners.
    • Provide support to caseworkers in the tracking of individual cases and updating progress/status.
    • Facilitate peer to peer discussions and other community engagement events organized for the purpose of creating awareness and disseminating of information to members of the community
    • Assist in the mobilization of community members for group therapy, support groups, community forums and sensitization campaigns in the communities
      Accompany social workers for home visits, and conduct follow-ups visits and provide feedback reports to the social workers.
      Provide weekly and monthly reports and data to the head of office highlighting individual performance, progress against targets, any outstanding issues of interest/concern and highlighting the needs of the clients. Attend regular staff meetings, trainings, monthly supervision and other meetings as required and ensure regular personal development.
    • Attend to clients at the front desk on the days assigned
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

    Job specifications

    • Must be a Refugee proficient in Somali language. Proficiency in Oromo language will be an added advantage.
    • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
    • Should be well integrated to the dynamics and needs of members of the refugee community within their areas.
    • Good working knowledge of the community needs and gaps
    • Ability to work with members of the community with little or no supervision
    • Computer literate
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong counselling skills
    • Strong training skills in community development and working with Persons with Specific Needs will be an added advantage.
    • No less than two years work experience, including at least 1 year working with the refugee community, preferably with an NGO.
