  • The Kenya Medical Research Institute is committed to providing the youth with opportunities to acquire, sharpen their knowledge and gain technical/practical skills to complement their studies in order to enhance their employability in line with the Kenya Vision 2030. We have an opportunity to investigate the relationship between cholera occurrence in terms of dominant hotspots and various environmental and human factors associated with the hotspots. This is important for managing cases and preventing future outbreaks.

    The project has internship opportunities for the following positions:

    Cholera Control Internship


    Reports to: Study PI

    The interns will be trained on:

    •  Collection of suspected cholera samples
    • Data collection from households
    • Collection of environmental samples (water, effluent, sewerage)
    • Processing and laboratory analysis of the samples and pathogen identification
    • Data entry and basic data analysis


    • Possess a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University in Biomedical Sciences (Microbiology).

    In addition, the applicants must:

    • Be a Kenyan youth below 30 years of age; and
    • Provide a Certificate of good conduct.

    Personal Attributes

    •  Should possess interpersonal and communication skills
    •  Must be goal oriented, dynamic, passionate and self-starter
    • A person of integrity
    • Should possess strong analytical skills
    • Must be computer literate
    • Must be a team player.

    The Internship programme will be for twelve (12) months.

    Please Note

    A monthly stipend of Kes. 25,000/= will be given without any other benefits.

    •  Interns will be expected to take up a personal accident cover and medical insurance cover
    •  The project WILL NOT offer employment after the completion of internship.
