    Principal Employee Relations Officer

    Description

    Overall Objective

    Reporting to the Head of Employee Relations, the job holder is responsible for the implementation of Authority’s industrial relations programs and resolves disputes/ grievances affecting unionisable employees arising from employment.

    Tasks & Responsibilities

    • Effectively assisting in the coordination and implementation of the Authority’s’ industrial relations programs.
    • Sensitizing and Educating Shop stewards and immediate supervisors on industrial relation matters.
    • Addressing complaints and grievances affecting Unionisable employees arising from employment practices and work life.
    • Ensuring Union deductions and FKE subscriptions are processed and remitted in accordance with the law.
    • Assisting in the review of the terms and conditions of service for unionisable employees(CBA)
    • Liaising with other divisions and provides guidance and advise to Sectional heads on the implementation of established CBA with the recognized Trade Unions
    • Resolving issues likely to lead to industrial relations problems arising from the employment practices and work life at source.
    • Carrying out regular audits on the implementation of statutory agreements and regulations. (Human Resources Manual, Collective Bargaining Agreement and Industrial Relations Machinery).
    • Providing Union contracts administration services including investigation of grievances.
    • Providing guidance and advice to unionisable employee on the correct policies and procedures with regards to disciplinary cases.
    • Facilitating of the Joint Industrial Council program and implementation of all issues discussed.
    • Participating in productivity and liaison matters
    • Monitoring and addressing trade disputes raised by the Union to the County Labour Office.
    • Ensuring compliance with staff regulations, circulars and notices issued from time to time.
    • Ensuring working overtime is within approved budget.

    Requirements

    • Be a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or, Social Sciences or in any other relevant field from a recognized institution
    • A Master’s degree in Human Resource Management or any other equivalent and relevant qualifications from a recognized institution will be an added advantage
    • Possess Post Graduate qualification in Human Resource Management or any other relevant field from a recognized institution
    • Be a member of the Institute of Human Resources Management Kenya with a valid practicing license.
    • Have not less than five (5) years experience in delivery of Employee/ Industrial Relations services with at least three (3) years served at a managerial level.
