    Intern - Administration

    Job Opening Number: 19-Administration-UNEP-127401-J-Nairobi (O)

    The duration of the Internship is three months minimum; maximum is six months. The Internship is unpaid and full-time.

    Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

    Telephone or interviews via skype will be scheduled for shortlisted candidates.

    Responsibilities

    Work Areas: 

    • logistics, communication and administration towards meeting related to the Committee of Permanent Representatives and the UN Environment Assembly's preparation;
    • database and website management; and
    • Contributions to the planning and organization of environment related conferences.

    Responsibilities

    Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the nature of specific tasks and activities, and the internship duration.

    Duties include the following:

    • Carry out substantive research.
    • Analyze, draft, and review documents.
    • Present data and information gathered from diverse sources to support the implementation of tasks and activities.
    • Support the preparation of briefing notes and fact sheets.
    • Development of information material, presentations, and toolkits.
    • Support the preparation of meeting/conference agendas and follow-up action points.
    • Assist with ad hoc meetings and prepare meeting minutes if required.
    • Support the drafting and preparation of official documents, such as diplomatic notes and letters.
    • Perform other duties as required.

Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

    Education

    Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent);
    • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
    • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
    • Demonstrates keen interest in the work of the United Nations and has a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

    Applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications.

    Work Experience

    Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

    Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; and knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
