    Assistant Principal Research Scientist - Kericho

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct research activities at the hospitals, laboratories, communities and environments that span the studies within the MHK
    • Prepare complete documentation of research activities and follow applicable standard operational procedures and data management protocols.
    • Analyze, interpret, and document research findings for review.
    • Compare actual and expected results, troubleshoot and suggest solutions to correct the deviations or redesign experiments
    • Evaluate existing research or modeling techniques and recommend improvements to ensure quality and productivity.
    • Generate new research questions and write grant proposals
    • Mentor, advise and provide technical support to junior scientists, graduate students and interns
    • Foster a network of colleagues within the institution and with collaborators to enhance training opportunities
    • Presenting their work at conferences and different forums.
    • Coordinate workshops and seminars
    • Prepare proposals, presentations, reports and policy documents for stakeholders and collaborators
    • Produce lead or single-author publications, and collaborative publications

    Vacancy Requirements:

    • Minimum of a Phd. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline.    Mandatory
    • Must have been awarded individual fellowships, grants, or other awards    Mandatory
    • Record of peer-reviewed publication with at least 3 as first author    Mandatory
    • Experience in teaching, training, and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students    Mandatory
    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in antimicrobial resistance of bacterial pathogens    Mandatory
    • Experience in clinical microbiology an added advantage    Added Advantage
    • Training in Human Subjects Research, and safety in the workplace    Mandatory
    • Very good problem solving and communication skills in English (writing, reading, and oral).    Mandatory
    • Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.    Mandatory
    • Mature and responsible individual with leadership ability, attentive to detail and able to work in a team and work flexible hours.    Mandatory
    • Computer skills, including Microsoft office and Internet.    Mandatory
    • Demonstrated originality, creativity, and productivity.    Mandatory
    • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.    Mandatory
    • Scientific writing skills demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications    Mandatory
    • Uphold tenants of good scientific method including consistency and reproducibility of data.    Mandatory
    • Excellent project and time management skills    Mandatory
    • Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills    Mandatory
    • Self-motivated; able to work independently and under pressure    Mandatory
