ROLE PURPOSE
The Card Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and supporting enterprise card payment solutions that meet business, operational and regulatory requirements. The role partners closely with Enterprise Architects, Technology teams, Business stakeholders and external vendors to deliver secure, scalable and resilient card payment solutions across issuing, acquiring and payment processing platforms. The incumbent will also oversee certification activities, support scheme compliance initiatives and provide technical expertise throughout the solution lifecycle.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Solution Design and Architecture
- Design and develop enterprise card payment solutions that meet business requirements while maintaining high standards of scalability, security and system stability.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architects to define solution architectures aligned with organisational technology standards and industry best practices.
- Evaluate multiple technical solution options and recommend the most suitable approach for business initiatives.
- Translate business requirements into practical technical solution designs for card payment systems.
Card Payment Systems Development and Delivery
- Lead the technical implementation of card payment solutions across issuing, acquiring and payment processing platforms.
- Deliver high quality solutions within agreed project timelines using agile delivery methodologies.
- Provide end to end technical support throughout the solution lifecycle, including development, testing, deployment and production support.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to optimise existing card platforms and processes.
Certification and Compliance
- Coordinate and execute host certifications required by payment schemes and regulatory bodies.
- Manage white plastic, digital wallet and terminal certification activities within established timelines.
- Support mandatory enhancement releases from Visa, Mastercard, UPI and JCB to maintain compliance with payment scheme requirements.
- Monitor changes to payment industry standards and coordinate implementation of required system enhancements.
Technology Evaluation and Innovation
- Evaluate emerging card payment technologies and recommend solutions that improve operational efficiency and customer experience.
- Perform technical assessments of new products, platforms and technologies to determine business suitability.
- Identify opportunities for innovation across card payment systems and recommend enhancements that support strategic business objectives.
Information Security and Risk Management
- Work closely with Technology Risk and Information Security teams to maintain compliance with internal technology security standards.
- Incorporate security requirements into solution design and implementation activities.
- Support vulnerability remediation and technology risk mitigation initiatives relating to card payment systems.
- Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and payment industry standards.
Stakeholder and Vendor Management
- Partner with internal technology teams, business stakeholders and project teams throughout solution delivery.
- Coordinate vendor activities to support successful system integration and project implementation.
- Build effective working relationships with payment schemes, technology partners and external service providers.
- Provide technical guidance and subject matter expertise to project teams and business stakeholders.

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Information Technology or another related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience managing card payment systems within the banking industry.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in banking operations with strong exposure to card payment technologies.
- Experience working with card management platforms. Experience with Transware will be an added advantage.
- Experience delivering technology solutions within agile project environments.
- Knowledge of card issuing, acquiring, payment processing and digital payment ecosystems.
- Understanding of payment scheme certification processes for Visa, Mastercard, UPI and JCB.
- Experience working with enterprise solution architecture and systems integration.
- Strong understanding of technology security principles and risk management within financial services.
