    Financial Controller

    Job Description

    Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

    Job Summary:

    Responsible for providing strategic leadership in business and financial planning, ensuring that Company goals on various metrics are met in an efficient manner and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • In liaison with the Chief Executive Officer, develops an appropriate policy framework to guide financial decision-making pertaining to turnover, cost, profit, and future investment.
    • Contributes to the preparation of the strategic plan, including preparation of annual budgets and forecasts as well as monthly variance analysis to provide structure, predict cashflow, allocate resources and measure performance.
    • Prepares accurate and up-to-date financial statements to facilitate business plans and other board decisions to provide information about the financial position, performance, and changes in financial position of an enterprise that is useful to a wide range of users in making economic decisions.
    • Liaises with statutory and financial auditors in finalization of books of account to ensure accuracy and completeness of information captured.
    • Prepares Cash Flow and Fund Flow statements and reviews the same at regular intervals to ensure accurate and timely information for each reporting period.
    • Generates and analyzes monthly and quarterly Management Information System (MIS) Reports to enable the Management to assess the performance of the Company and facilitate timely decision-making.
    • Creates and maintains good and effective working relations with financial institutions, statutory bodies and other external authorities to avoid operational disruptions and other inconveniences arising from Company interaction with any of the bodies.
    • Manages foreign as well as local supplier payments and any issues presented by them to ensure timely procurement.
    • Prepares and maintains an up-to-date Fixed Asset Schedule and carries out periodic physical verification to facilitate timely capital expenditure decisions.
    • Regularly reviews financial and accounting systems, policies, and procedures to ensure that all potential pitfalls are detected and proactively addressed.
    • Continually reviews the financial and accounting systems to ensure with statutory provisions, the Company’s strategy, departmental objectives, and any emerging challenges.
    • Supervises day-to-day finance and accounting activities to ensure that information and other services are provided to the relevant users on a timely basis.
    • Monitors Imports and Exports activities to ensure that all documentation is accurate and done in a timely manner to avoid unnecessary delays in payment, shipping, clearing and delivery.
    • Establishes and maintains accurate, timely and effective control systems to ensure that salaries, wages and statutory dues and related returns are paid and filed in a timely manner and without errors.
    • Coordinates IT activities to ensure effectiveness in activities such as networking, backup and system setup.
    • Makes recommendations on, and spearheads the implementation of new software for the ease of reports and efficient running of accounts and factory operations.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Degree in Commerce/Accounting/Finance or other relevant degree from a reputable university.
    • Master’s degree in Strategic Management or Business Administration (Finance).
    • Recognized accounting professional qualification (e.g. CPA (K), ACCA or ACA).
    • At least 7 years’ experience in a senior finance/accounting management role in a high-growth environment. Plastic manufacturing preferred

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Excellent knowledge of financial reporting, analytics, budgeting and strategic planning.
    • Must demonstrate high levels of integrity and confidentiality.
    • Good understanding of accounting systems, with previous exposure to Sage ERP.
    • Good analytical and judgement skills.
    • Sound knowledge of procurement, import and export processes.
    • Good experience as a coach and mentor.
    • Excellent supervisory skills.
    • Good planning and organizational skills.
    • Very good oral, written and presentation skills.
    • Able to competently handle all statutory audits and queries.
