    HR Associate/Officer, HR Academics

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Support recruitment and selection of vacant positions ensuring all hiring is in accordance with budget & institutional guidelines.
    • Assist in addressing employee grievances and support in resolving routine disciplinary cases in accordance with applicable labor laws and AKU policies.
    • Work with the Learning and Organization Development team to help collate training needs from Performance appraisal forms and training requests received from departments or employees.
    • Maintain the HRIS for all AKU employees and ensure that all personnel records are updated whilst supporting digitization roll out.
    • Assist in the periodic review of HR policies for the region.
    • Work with the HRBP to ensure activities are aligned with organizational requirements for quality, health and safety, legal requirements, and environmental policies.
    • Assist in identifying legal requirements and laws affecting human resources functions and ensure policies, procedures and reporting comply.
    • Serve as an employee advocate and advisor on HR policy, making appropriate recommendations to the HRBP, Academics.
    • In liaison with the HRBP coordinate performance management, promotions and salary increment processes.
    • Administer benefit programs impacting insurance, medical services, NSSF, NHIF.
    • In liaison with the HRBP Academics, manage employee relations programmes to foster an enabling and positive work environment.
    • In consultation with the HRBP Academics, advise Entity Heads/supervisors on HR issues.
    • Any other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s)

     
    Qualifications and Skills required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in HR or Business Administration or equivalent with an advanced diploma in HR.
    • CHRP licensure required.
    • Three (3) years of relevant work experience in a busy HR department
    • Excellent knowledge of the Kenyan labor laws
    • Good problem-solving skills and being able to deliver within tight deadlines.
    • Prioritization of own workload in a busy office environment.
    • Accurate and timely data entry onto people systems – ensuring the ongoing integrity of data.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
    • Excellent computer skills 
    • Excellent negotiation skills
    • Excellent time management skills & ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
    • Ability to work under pressure.
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
