Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Interpreting and implementing human resource policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Providing guidance in matters related to human resource planning, recruitment, selection, placement, induction, appointments, promotions and confirmation of staff.
Compensation and benefits management, including overseeing payroll administration and management of staff medical insurance.
Coordinating performance management, staff welfare, staff leave and time management.
Overseeing maintenance of staff records and updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
Determining HR requirements, HR planning and budgeting, and career planning.
Identifying training needs among the staff and recommending suitable training programmes.
Advising on succession management and providing information and assistance to staff and supervisors on human resource and work related issues.
Handling employee relations and disciplinary cases.
