    Intake Manager

    Role Objective:

    Monitoring and managing the intake area to ensure effective, accurate and good supply of raw materials into the packhouse as stipulated by the specifications set out in the quality manual.

    Key tasks:

    • Planning of daily activities relating to the intake area as set out in the Quality Manual in advance to ensure effective execution of tasks.
    • Planning of staff and equipment resource to enable optimal function of the intake area and raw material cold rooms.
    • Ensuring that all staff working in the intake area has access to the necessary procedures, records, and documents (specifications, etc) to clearly understand the task at hand with this as reference.
    • All tools and equipment to be used in intake must be maintained in a good working condition through regular maintenance, cleaning, and servicing as instructed by the manuals or as agreed in
    • house. (Equipment / tools such as thermometers, spec rulers, callipers, knife, refractometer, disinfectant, etc.)
    • Feedback of findings should be communicated through to the Packhouse to ensure that a pro active approach can be taken on the grading and packing of products. Any other feedback should be communicated through to the QA and Production Manager as needed. In the case where produce needs to be dispatched to other factories within the group, findings on problem areas must be communicated to all staff applicable.
    • An approach of continual improvement must be embraced to find better and more accurate methods of fulfilling this function.
    • Meetings with all intake staff must be scheduled at appropriate intervals to communicate new specifications, changes to specifications, use of equipment, etc to ensure a high level of understanding in this critical area.
    • Training must be given at appropriate intervals to all staff within the intake and raw material cold room function to ensure robust traceability, FIFO, and good temperature regimes.
    • Measuring the performance of the staff within this area based on the appraisals and giving this information through to the department heads for review.
    • Planning and executing refresher training with the guidance from the QA manager.
    • During audits and customer visits, a clear explanation with examples of the intake area must be available, also referring to relevant procedures, records, etc.
    • Liaising with the Farm Production Managers and the Packhouse QA and Production Managers to ensure correct volumes of quality product entering into the Packhouse for processing or packing.
    • Making sure that the correct specifications are available for new product lines as / when new lines are to be launched.
    • Ensure a high level of hygiene at the intake area due to potential contamination risk at the intake area.
