    Accountant Grants Administration

    JOB OBJECTIVE

    To provide primary accounting function for all grant monitoring administration, compliance, grant accounting, and financial reports to meet funders’ and university guidelines and criteria.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Be the primary fiscal contact for sub-recipients and funders.
    • Ensure compliance with contract conditions and assurances.
    • Coordinate the budgeting process and detail for assigned grants.
    • Set up budgets in accounting software and monitor budget activity for grants.
    • Route grant checks to appropriate offices for deposit and, enter indirect cost allocations, match journal entries.
    • Manage accounts payable and receivable activities for grant subcontracts while coordinating all grant meetings and reports.
    • Make available open Grants reports monthly and review balances with relevant departmental heads while updating PI/PD on available grant funds periodically.
    • Ensure compliance with internal policies related to grants, regulatory requirements such as KRA tax returns and relevant agencies of government and ensure periodic reconciliation.
    • Evaluate the financial capabilities for contract approval and notify departmental heads of any financial issues that may arise with sub-recipients and contractors.
    • Manage contractor agreements and ensure the terms and conditions of agreements are met and properly documented and communicated.
    • Implement procedures to communicate, educate, and ensure compliance with college policies and applicable grant regulations and oversee all grant-related training for the University.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting of Finance
    • Master’s Degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage
    • Professional qualification of CPA (K) or equivalent
    • At least 3 years’ work experience in grant administration or similar position

    • Data analysis skills

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
    • Ability to handle the complex workload and manage multiple projects
    • Relationship-building & Networking skills
    • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and organisational skills
