    Nyawest Program Specialist

    Job Summary:

    Oversight and guidance on counties to restructure TWG, strengthening of MDTs and CMEs as a first line of patient reviews and decision making through the support of implementing partners and leadership of the MoH with a focus on transition and sustainability.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    1. Network with the specialists within and without to facilitate CMEs at the regional, coordinate with county lead mentor’s dissemination of CME at the County, Sub-County, and facility levels.
    2. Timely Preparation of CDC quarterly report by sharing the Nyawest presentation and be ready to give respond where needed.
    3. Facilitate national mentorship guidelines sensitization and coordinate counties to embrace the mentorship cascade with MoH ownership.
    4. Coordinate with the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP), MoH, implementing partners, and counties on sensitizations of new ART guidelines 2021, circulars, and any updates.
    5. In consultation with NASCOP provide support in the region through capacity building, trainings, and mentorship.
    6. Provide guidance on decentralization of mentorship by conducting periodic clinical mentorship and supportive supervision to the various counties.
    7. Participate in reviewing, updating, and rollout of web based NHITC virtual training curriculum in consultation with NASCOP.
    8. Organizing biannual best practice forums where mentors meet and share the best practices that they have implemented in their respective counties and enhancing counties to adopt the innovative practices.
    9. Prepare Nyawest work plan, budget, and ensure follow up of its implementation.
    10. Design, lead, implement and oversee use of Nyawest Collect App as evidence-based mentorship embracement of technology in the region.
    11. Collaborate with M&E team to ensure mentorship data is used to make informed decision making hence retrospectively improve the quality of HIV services in the region.
    12. Routinely utilization of Quality Improvement approach and principles using Donabedian model focusing on system and processes as well as elements of operational research including identification of best practice of mentorship in the region.
    13. In Consultation with Ciheb-Kenya SI and NASCOP develop an Open Cloud system where cases, DRT results, and final feedback can be assessed and mentors, implementing partner, and MoH given rights to view with credentials to log in and get the data.
    14. Ensure clinical decision making is within stipulated timeline with case review, approval and DRT results review done and final feedback to the counties given with updated DRT approval tracker and DRT result tracker.
    15. Collaborate with JOOTRH STA to making JOOTRH facility a hub of mentorship in Nyanza and Western region and be a benchmark of twinning and off-site attachment as a true Centre of Excellence (COE) using the Ciheb-Kenya approach principles of Collaborative, Partnership, and Accountability.

    Skills and Experience:

    • A Diploma in Clinical Medicine, Nursing with at least five years relevant experience or first university degree in Clinical Officer or Nurse from an accredited/recognized institute with at least three (3) years’ related experience, in successful mentorship implementation of HIV Prevention programs in Kenya
    • Registered member of the relevant practitioners licensing body
    • Trained in National Advanced HIV Clinical Course (NAHCC) NASCOP
    • Trainer of Trainers in National ART Guidelines 2018
    • Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Mentorship Trainer of Trainers (NASCOP)
    • Trainer of Trainer in NHITC E-Learning
    • Trained in National HIV Mentorship Guideline 2016
    • Experience in Innovative training methodology using Telemedicine (ZOOM)
    • Trainer of Trainer in Kenya Quality Model for Health (KQMH) and Kenya HIV Quality Improvement Framework (KHQIF) – (NASCOP)
    • Promoter of innovation practices through Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) of systems and processes
    • Experience of more than ten (10) years in HIV/TB management with coordination experience of more than three (3) years
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others, including developing and maintaining compatibility among program staff, healthcare workers, county and sub-county officials, consultants, sub-awardees, program beneficiaries, other stakeholders
    • Demonstrated management and team-building skills, including relevant experience in direct mentorship of counties
    • Experience in implementation of key strategies through mentorship, supportive supervision, and capacity building modalities, dissemination of guidelines and standards, implementing quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives
    • Meticulous and with high degree of keenness, attention to detail, and systemic approach to work
