    Operations Manager (Healthcare)

    The Operations Manager plays a critical role in improving operational performance metrics such as bed occupancy, theatre utilisation, supply chain reliability, and cost-torevenue management.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee hospital daily operations and service delivery across departments.
    • Manage facilities, logistics, and operational infrastructure.
    • Ensure optimal utilisation of hospital assets including beds, theatres, and medical equipment.
    • Lead supply chain management including procurement, inventory control, and vendor relationships.
    • Monitor operational KPIs including occupancy rates, service efficiency, and turnaround times.
    • Implement operational improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and patient experience.
    • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and operational policies.
    • Coordinate closely with clinical, finance, and HR departments to ensure seamless service delivery.

    Key Success Factors

    • Operational Efficiency & Resource Optimisation: Maintain overall operational efficiency and optimise resource utilisation across the hospital.
    • Bed and Theatre Utilisation: Achieve an average bed occupancy rate of ≥65% and theatre utilisation of ≥60% during operating hours.
    • Equipment & Infrastructure Uptime: Ensure hospital equipment and operational infrastructure maintain ≥95% uptime to support uninterrupted clinical services.
    • Cost & Budget Management: Keep operational cost-to-revenue variance within 3% of the approved budget.
    • Inventory & Supply Chain Management: Limit inventory losses to <1.5% annually and ensure no more than two stock-out incidents per quarter for essential medical supplies.
    • Continuous Improvement: Implement operational improvement initiatives that deliver ≥10% improvement in departmental efficiency or turnaround time annually.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Hospital Administration, or a related discipline from a recognised university.
    • A Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or Operations Management will be a strong advantage.
    • Professional certifications in operations or project management such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Lean Six Sigma, or Healthcare Operations Management certification are highly desirable
    • as they demonstrate the ability to implement operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • A minimum of eight to ten years of progressive leadership experience, preferably within healthcare institutions, hospitals, or large complex service environments where operational performance, facilities management, and supply chain oversight are critical.
    • A strong understanding of healthcare regulatory requirements in Kenya, including compliance with Ministry of Health (MOH) standards, hospital accreditation requirements, and healthcare quality management frameworks, is essential.
