    Principal Legal Officer

    Requirements for Appointment

    • Be a citizen of Kenya;
    • Be a holder of a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from a University recognized in Kenya;
    • Be a holder of a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from a University recognized in Kenya;
    • Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya of not less than five (5) years post-admission experience
    • Be a member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing;
    • Knowledge in records of relevant laws and professional standards.
    • Certificate in Computer applications from a recognized institution

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • The Principal Legal Officer will report to the County Solicitor and his/her

    duties and responsibilities will include:

    • The Chief Policy Advisor on issues relating to justice, legal and constitutional affairs, law reform, governance, rule of law, and human rights.
    • Coordinate the development and implementation of county policies and laws.
    • Coordinate stakeholder consultations and engagement on matters of policy and legislation.
    • Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on legal documents agreements, contracts, and MoUs for and on behalf of the County Government and its agencies.
    • Must be well versed in the drafting of legal documents including legislation, policy, and litigation.
    • Ensuring compliance with principles and values of good governance, human rights, transparency, accountability, ethics, and integrity.
    • Undertaking research on assigned legal issues and analyzing research data and compiling reports.
    • Preparing preliminary legal documents/instruments and preparing legal opinions.
    • Undertaking law review and ensuring compliance with county,national, regional, and international instruments.
