    Senior Deputy Director, Health Management Services (Public Health), National Emergency and Preparedness

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Senior Deputy Director, Health Management Services will head the national Emergency and preparedness Division. Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:-  

    • Spearheading development of policies, legislations, strategies, and guidelines on national emergency and preparedness;      
    • Coordinating preparation, detection, response, and mitigation of public health emergencies;
    • Mobilizing and deploying resources including surge capacity, services and supplies;
    • Coordinating timely, events specific operational decision-making using available information and policies;
    • Coordinating information management: collection, collation, analysis, presentation, and utilization of health event data and information to guide response; and
    • Spearheading of research in priority areas

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -

    • Served for a minimum period of ten (10) years, three (3) of which should be in the grade of  Assistant Director Medical Services, Public Health or Environmental Health, CSG 7 and above or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service or private sector;
    • A Bachelors degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Medicine and Surgery (M.B,Ch.B.) or any other equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya;
    • A Masters degree in any of the following fields:   Environmental Health, Public Health, Epidemiology, Medicine, Community Health, Occupational Health Promotion and Education, or any other relevant Health related field from a university recognized in Kenya;
    • A Registration Certificate by relevant professional body where applicable;
    • A Valid Practicing License from relevant professional body where applicable;
    • A Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution;
    • Demonstrated managerial and administrative capability, and professional competence in work performance and results; and
    • Exhibited a thorough understanding of national development policies, goals and objectives and ability to integrate them into the Public Health and Sanitation function
